Why not full European... moreI put a post a week ago about Apple wanting to make thinnest Smartfone...I said folk not bothered by thinnest anymore make it thicker and stick in a decent battery..Its true what you say plus the thinner a device get the more uncomfortable it gets to hold..

As i say building the worlds thinnest phone does not impress anyone these days,, even normobs that know nothing complain about poor battery life in some fones.

If Apple can squeeze 8 hrs on LTE that some engineerinng ..Until iFixit guys get hold of one we dont know much about battery.

i'm not a samsung or an apple fan. you can call me third party outsider. there are negative comments said about samsung phones and about apple iphones, but based on what i've read, apple never made any hardware on iphone or on any apple products it sold..would you call this leader in innovation.. take a deep breath and think, apple products are made in china, no china no apple, period.

Apple always seem to leave out some key features from their products.

Why not full European LTE 800\1800\2600. This is a no no to me. Most people buy the phone for 2 years not for 3 months.

Instead of going in to slimmest contest give people proper battery power that will last 3-4 days. Everything under 10mm is slim enough.

To get down to specifics, the iPhone 5 is the world’s slimmest smartphone, with a 7.6 mm anodized aluminium body, which is 18% thinner and 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S, rounded off with diamond-cut chamfered edges and glass inlays.

The Retina display measures 4 inches, and boasts even more pixels than the iPhone 4S. The taller screen enables you to still use the iPhone with one hand, but now gives better picture quality on the larger Retina display, including widescreen HD video, all five days of your Calendar, and just generally more on view.

As far as speed is concerned, the iPhone 5 supports ultrafast wireless standards such as LTE and DC-HSDPA, with its unique, single-radio LTE solution that provides all the speed while remaining slim enough to fit into the thin casing. Wi-Fi support comes with dual-band 802.11n up to Mbps.

The new A6 chip boasts twice the CPU and graphics performance of the iPhone 4S.

The iSight camera has been redesigned, and despite being 25% smaller than the iPhone 4S camera, includes a new panorama feature for panoramic images of up to 28 megapixels. The camera features a sapphire crystal lens cover that is thinner and more durable than standard glass.

The new Lightning dock connector is all-digital, and features an adaptive interface that only uses the signals that are required by each device. It’s also reversible.

The iPhone’s qualities as a music player have also not been forgotten, with new Apple EarPods, which have been completely redesigned from the iconic shape of the famous white earphones, and are said to now have a more natural fit, increased durability, and the sort of acoustic quality usually associated with high-end earphones. Improvements have also been made to the quality of phone call audio for both the person who is talking and the person who is listening, including a new beam-forming, directional microphone system.

Very recently Apple gained an important victory against one of its biggest competitors – Samsung. This week the tech giant won another battle. A Munich based court decided that Motorola Mobility was guilty of infringing an Apple held patent.

The patent in question is referred to as “overscroll bounce” or “rubber-banding” and is used in interface animation. For the moment there will be no explicit measures taken towards Motorola because Apple has first to request the ban on Motorola products that use the technology.

Patent expert Florian Muller, who initially posted the information on the FossPatents blogs, claimed that Apple will surely be willing to ensure a German sales ban on Motorola products by paying 25 million Euros to see it happen. Nevertheless Muller thinks that Motorola isn’t in deep waters just yet:

"Motorola doesn't have to look far for a workaround: stock Android (the version of Android that Google makes available for download) comes with a glow effect instead of the overscroll bounce."

Google and Motorola Mobility are expected to appeal the decision at the Munich Higher Regional Court to try to revoke Apple's patent at the European Patent Office, arguing that it should never have been granted to begin with.

A report on Apple Insider today says that according to Japanese website Macotakara, Apple’s new Lightning dock connector will be able to host USB devices, which means that the manufacturers of third-party accessories will be able to market totally different products than were previously possible with the old 30-pin dock connector. AppleInsider says that up until now, the iPad was the only iOS device that was able to host USB devices, via a Camera Connection Kit. The kit, which was only compatible with the iPad and not the iPhone or iPod touch, enabled the user to connect cameras, wired keyboards and other similar USB devices to their iPad. Now, if this report is proved to be correct, the Lightning connector has built-in USB support, so you may well be able to connect USB accessories to it such as cameras and keyboards, via third-party accessories. Apparently Apple has said that Lighting ports will be supported by third-party accessory makers such as Bose, JBL and B&W.

Semiconductor analyst Linley Gwennap has posted an interesting overview (via CNET) of the series of events that led to Apple's A6 system-on-a-chip, the company's first entirely custom ARM chip design. The report notes that Apple has likely spent in excess of $500 million on the project when including the purchase prices of chip firms P.A. Semi and Intrinsity.
At this point, Apple has spent about $400 million to buy PA Semi and Intrinsity, tens of millions for a license to design its own ARM CPUs, and probably north of $100 million to support its CPU design efforts over the past four years. It appears that the end result will be that Apple ships a Cortex-A15-class CPU about three months before arch-enemy Samsung does. These three months happen to come during the big holiday buying season, during which the iPhone 5 could generate $25 billion in revenue. So that half billion dollars could be money well spent.

AppleInsider writes today that leading Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has said that the iPhone 5 is a “Rolex” in comparison to its competitors, which he says are more like a “Timex.” Munster says that Apple is set to sell between 6 million to 10 million iPhone 5s in the September quarter, which ends at the end of September. Munster has managed to have hands-on time with the iPhone 5, and says that it has an improved feel and build in comparison to previous iPhones. AppleInsider reports that Piper Jaffray and Investing Analytics also kept tabs on how the iPhone 5 went down online, and found that Twitter posts about the new phone saw a 460% year over year increase compared to iPhone 4S launch day, with blog posts about the iPhone 5 also up 100% year over year. Munster said that 73% of tweets about the iPhone 5 were positive, in comparison with 15% for the iPhone 4S launch.

AppleInsider explains that Geekbench logged a score of 1601 from an “iPhone5x2” running iOS 6 on a dual-core ARMv7 processor, clocked at 1.02GHz and with 1GB RAM. AppleInsider says that while there is no guarantee that it is genuine unless confirmed by Apple, device identifiers are apparently difficult to copy, and the specs used are in line with previous rumours that the A6 chip inside the iPhone 5 has a full gig of DRAM and custom cores for its ARMv7 CPU. Assuming the scores are genuine, then, they show that the iPhone 5 is outperforming even the best of the best performing Android devices (not just phones, but tablets as well). They also more than double the best performance of any previous iPhones, none of which have surpassed a score of 800.
