Performance, speed, ... moreYou can downgrade it to iOS 8.4.1, look for 91Tech on Youtube, he explains it. But I doubt the difference in speed will be that big, I would rather have all of my apps working properly on iOS 10 than having to deal with support problems of iOS 8. I think in the process, you can also be on iOS 6, that would be something special. iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 were the best hardware-software combo ever.

I would call the 5 discontinued as it doesn't get any software updates, but that also means the Galaxy S6 is discontinued (well, and it's a fact)

iOS 11 is strictly for 64 bit proccessors thus A7 chip Apple devices upwards which are iPhone 5S/SE/6/6 Plus/6S/6S Plus/7/7 Plus/8/8 Plus/X/XR/XS/XS Max
iPhone 5/5S/SE/6/6 Plus/6S/6S Plus/X are all discontinued
