The Sega Dreamcast was the first major 128 bit console.

Premature announcement of Samsung from... moreI don't really argue Samsung's case because whilst I think their products are good, they still demonstrate how inexperienced they are with marketing and public relations - A great example was the poor launch of the Note 3 and Gear, and of course how they have reacted to iWatch and 64 bit among other announcements.
Google have been making movements through Motorola to protect the monopoly Samsung has been gaining over Android since they appeared in the public eye, because Samsung don't support devices as long or react to software issues as quickly as Google would like and bundle point scoring software into their devices instead of carefully thought out features (opinion).
This being said, I do not think Google are under any duress to move to 64 bit soon, solely based on the speed increases Apple has touted and Samsung's empty promises to switch to 64 bit - I would agree that market brainwashing of the perceived advantages of 64 bit could cause them to reconsider but its still to early to tell.
I appreciate you taking the time to explain your position more clearly. I can Google and read between the lines but many other people cannot/do not - and so opinions are made on subjective information; It's a pet hate of mine that has caused disdain towards Apple (and Samsung to an extent) to grow due to their style of marketing to the less tech-savvy public.
One More thing! If Apple is failed to release 64bit iOS (may be version 8/9 whatever) in next one year then this is a big cheating by Apple to its dia hard fan/customers. And most probably, Google will launch Android 5.0 with 64 bit and 32 bit both. So don't expect it with Android kitkat.

1. Most important article (4300 words, very detailed)
2. Samsung will misguidedly release 64 bit SOC
3. Samsung; Of course, our next chip will be 64 bit (Spoiler: Android doesn't support 64 bit yet)

I am of the opinion tha... moreThis is my opinion, derived from a collection of facts. Premature announcement of Samsung from the fact that they simply announced they too would go 64bit (why? Because it would only make sense if Android ALSO went 64bit) and when asked when exactly was this Samsung answered "Not in the shortest time", leading to the conclusion the announcement was premature and not planned carefully.
Disruption of Apple's announcement can be from the strong reaction from the Android camp, quick to say 64bit is useless, yet makers like Samsung announcing 64bit, meaning there is a confused response. If Apple convinces the masses that 64bit is better than 32bit, Android will be forced to follow suit, whether they want to or not.
Thus, my conclusion that Google is forced to make a decision on the OS front (to go 64bit or not) and they have to decide fast. If Android don't decide to go 64bit by Android KitKat time, you could also conclude that Samsung's announcement was bull$hit.
It is not difficult to analyse facts. I may be right, I may be wrong, but my conclusions are based on facts. Google whatever I have said to analyse for yourself.

I am of the opinion that Apple are losing traction in the market, but you are trying to weasel word your statement as fact, unless otherwise cited with references it is a product of your opinion. In other words your talking BS.
The keynote was impressive as usual.
Brilliant launch by Apple, along with brilliant strategy. Long term tactical announcements that have caused concern for Google and Samsung.
The disruption is fantastic, forcing Google to undertake some decisions on the OS front and Samsung to prematurely overreact with a knee jerk response of their own.

You clearly dont understand what you are defending very well, Apple has implemented a 64 bit architecture, this is not the same as AMD x64 that exists for Windows PCs however it is sensible to assume the device will need more RAM than to make use of the additional registers available through the processor. Software needs to be 64 bit compatible in order to make use of 64 bit so its unlikely Apple have released a 64 bit processor for speed gains, but to start developers creating iOS 64 bit native apps for their future products.
A lot of people (phrased as an opinion rather than matter of fact) dont like how restrictive Apple are as a company, hardware and software provider, and the culture they create of elitism.
Thats the end of it.
One more thing. People are fighting here. I don't know why. Both iOS and Android are son of UNIX OS. UNIX is their father. So both are brother. One is brought up by Apple and other is brought up by Google. Now people are fighting here for these two brothers. Sometime when I come on this page and read some comments, I can not stop myself laughing.
Martin, 17 Sep 2013Stop droid fans they are in for plastic and features that are useless, why dó samsung p... moreWhy must I pay all this money while I can buy more (useless but cool) features with less. I have Xperia SP that knocks your IPhone in almost every aspect with half the price. This is nonsense. This is daylight robbery.
I have seen lots of comments regarding 64bit Architecture. I have spent total 11 years in IT industry and work for many product with 32 bits and 64 bits Architecture. But I will not put any techinical thing here for the same. Just want to say one thing you need to have 64 bit OS first to utilized that processor. Apart from this, there are lots of other technical things that will required to utilize 64bit processing power which i don't want to put here, for that I need to take 15 days training. Now Apple has launch this device with 64 bits means future iOS version will be 64 bit OS. Whenever Google will release 64bit version of Android OS, other brand like Samsung, HTC, LG and Sony will also manufacture Mobile handset with 64bit processor. Till that time no need to have 64bit processor.
..ip6 maybe... 4.7 display, air and retina sensor, improved camera...bla...bla...bla...;P
Do you guys know whether this fingerprint scanner/sensor can be turned off or not? I mean do you necessarily have to have a "lock" on your iphone? (I'm not on iphone user, so I don't really know)
Yingyang, 17 Sep 2013Who would believe you? If samsung has been designing that for years. Why wouldn't they put tha... moreIt's technically possible to make 1tb flash memory and 3ghz mobile processors but technology has always worked the same way that each year it gives progressive upgrades to reach that level and it just isn't time for 64 bit mobile processors, for exactly the same reason Apple isn't releasing 128gb iPhones because they are planning to but holding off for as long as people will still accept 64gb.
And this is how the technology world has always worked but the fact is Apple could jump the gun in 64 bit because it will have a more basic architecture than what more feature filled Androids need.
But I'm sure you'll disagree with me and the way technology progression has always happened anyway.
Stop droid fans they are in for plastic and features that are useless, why dó samsung put thing into the phone that you dont need.
The thing is that Apple still think they provide you with exclusive, incomparable features. They are charging us unbelievably higher prices. In today's competitive world, this is either stupidity or fraud.I find nothing, absolutely nothing, worth this ultra high price in all their products.

Don't hate iphone it just does stuff fast consistently and simple..When your wanting stuff to get things done and it works iphone is the best..Its just they have never justified why they overcharge for their products...We know they overcharge hence the massive profit..In reality they are not using anything special in materials and once softwares written that's it...Maybe all the other companys should follow suite and maximise profits.

All the rest of the phone makers like samsung/htc/sony will follow thru as well.
But the good news is, you can get the 64gb version if you have the money.
You cannot get 64gb samsung device even if you do have the cash.. because it does not exist and your following a lie.
