Asus Android Announcement

Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra made its official debut today, marking an important change of direction for the company's mainstream Zenfone line. The phone comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and all the latest AI bangs and whistles, but more importantly it is significantly bigger than its predecessors.

In fact the Zenfone 11 Ultra has a footprint identical to the ROG Phone 8 Pro, albeit its design has been altered to suggest it's targeted at more mainstream audience.

The 6.78” LTPO AMOLED display has Full HD+ resolution and up to 144 Hz refresh rate. Peak brightness is 2,500 nits, and the panel is protected by a Gorilla Glass Victus 2. There is a single punch hole for the 32 MP camera.

Around the back the Zenfone 11 Ultra has a triple camera setup - a first for the Zenfone line since 2021. The main camera has a 50 MP Sony IMX890 sensor with Asus'6-axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 3.0. Then there's the 13 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle cam, and the 32 MP telephoto cam with 3x optical zoom.

The presentation is largely focused on AI, which enhances the Bokeh in Portrait Video Mode and helps track the object's face. Other highlighted features include Transcript in sounds, call translation, noise cancellation, and AI wallpaper.

The Zenfone 11 Ultra has a 5,500 mAh battery that supports 65W wired and 15W wireless charging. Sadly, the company will not ship an adapter in the retail box, only a USB-C cable.

The bottom of the phone is extremely crowded, as it has a 3.5 mm audio jack, a speaker grille, a SIM tray, a USB-C port, and the microphone. Connectivity-wise, Zenfone 11 Ultra covers Bluetooth 5.4 and is Wi-Fi 7 ready.

The device comes in four colors – Skyline Blue, Eternal Black, Misty Grey, and Desert Sand. Asus set the Zenfone 11 Ultra starting price at €1,000/£870 (for a 12/256 GB memory option), with a €100 discount during the pre-order period, meaning you can get a top-tier flagship with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for €900. The 16GB/512GB version has a regular price of €1,100/£950.

At $899, even though it's $200 less than the base ROG Phone 8, it cost the same as the OnePlus 12 and you get Hasselblad camera tuning alongisde USB3 with wired video out for the latter. Maybe ASUS should make a cheaper compact Zenfone 11 and pr...

I do remember Asus gave two phone screen size for the Zenfone 8 series. And since this is the Ultra model, don't discount the possibility of the compact Zenfone being dead. Sony launched the large-sized Xperia 1 first before launching the small-...
