This is my phone. It's been almost a year since I've got it and it still feels pretty new. It looks new, if nothing else. I've also got several software updates since the purchase, so I don't feel excluded out of the Android world.
Apart from the price to performance ratio, which is excellent, I can say that the phone itself is excellent, especially if you consider it was bought a year ago. Nevertheless, it still is a good and viable device today with its 2GB of RAM and uptodate software.
Besides that, it has an excellent 13MP HDR still camera with a dual LED flash and an innovative laser guided AF. It is also capable of producing full HD videos (1080p@30fps) with stereo sound.
ASUS with its Zenfones was among the first four manufacturers in the world to implement Gorilla Glass 4 on its smartphones at that time. So, when I read how this device is little fragile, I can't help but wonder why did they write that. Just search the internet for a video of people scratching their Asus Zenfones with screwdrivers, people hitting their Zenfones with a hammer... Just click one, there are many to chose from...
I had an S4 before and I cannot express my relief. I couldn't have bought a better phone.
I could've bought another device for more or less the same money, like Acer or Lenovo for instance. They had devices in the same class. But I wouldn've had the Gorilla Glass 4, I wouldn't have had a 13MP camera and I wouldn've had a genuine brand. Since many other brands changed owners recently, unlike Asus, which stayed genuine.
And besides that, I also would've missed the innovative laser AF for example, the double tap screen unlock function, which is very comfortable to use, the keyless edge, so I can grab my phone the way I please when it rings. The rear volume keys... And who knows what else.
My vote? Excellent!
(9 out 10)
After using this phone for a year the touchscreen starts having problem and sometimes become unresoonsive
Why the double tap to screen lock amd unlock does not work If I use other launcher apps? I am pretty much Bored with the ZenLauncher
After a year on the market this phone still is full of bugs.
Though they released an update for the earjacks recently, it still has the bug that soundnotifications like from whatsapp, phonecalls, sms and so on will be played over speakers, no matter if earjacks are plugged or not.
Phoneapp is bugged, you cannot change/set the voicemailnumber of your speeddial '1'.
Dateformat is not changeable.
Timestamp option in the photoapp is fixed to american dateformat i think (displaying month.year.day?), and not changeable.
A lot of ASUS-software, which uses up a lot of space, you need a SD-Card.
Though Android allows to integrate SD-Cards as internal memory, ASUS wont allow it and its recognised as external memory so you cannot save apps on it. Well, you can tell the cameraapp to save pics to SD, but thumbs and according data still will be saved internal.
And other apps e.g. whatsapp dont even have the option for external save.
I'm getting notification about updates 13.1010.1612.53 today. It fixes plastic headphone jack bug and security update. Anybody get that too?
georgia, 30 Dec 2016hii guys, which is best---asus zenfone 2 laser ze500kl, lenovo vibe s1 lite, HTC desire ... moreI'm using ASUS since past 1 year no such major issues so far. Can go ahead for Asus instead of any other phones. Also works absolutely fine even now.
Anonymous, 21 Feb 2017Is this fon r good or bad. This phone is pretty good. Now on android 6.0.1 marshmallow, battery life is average, good UI customization, great phone quality but rather low volume of loudspeaker, average camera (but fast laser autofocus), rather slow charging speed, sometimes feel sluggish (low-end chipset) and not so great screen-to-body ratio. Today, many smartphone maker make a good smartphone for lower price, get yourself one. I think this phone is rather outdated. Any feedback is welcome.
This phone is not bad, but really recommend to have casing as the corners are fragile
Avi , 05 Feb 2017Mine battery percentage is stucked on 65% after using for 1-2 hours and its charging very fast... moreCharging from 0% to 80% usually quite fast, then slowed down until 100%.
For battery usage, I usually got around the same after 1-2 hours. If there are excessive heat while using, there might be some problem.
era, 02 Feb 2017ze500kl has 8mp or 13mp camera?i only got 8mp camera, why is that happen? The Asus Zenfone 2 Laser 500kl has the 13 mp back camera but the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser 500KG Has 8 mp back camera so your phone may be the 500kg model.
Mine battery percentage is stucked on 65% after using for 1-2 hours and its charging very fast 2% in 1 min. Is it a bad problem?

will this phone get nougat update or not if it gets when will be the update coming
Works fine except when I try to use Google Maps - It just locks up. I think the processor is just not able for Google Maps. Also the 2nd SIM slot requires a network that supports one of the old band types (I think it's 2g or something)...anyway...only 1 network in Canada Supports the older type connection...so I was forced to go with them for my second SIM.
I dropped the phone and cracked the screen - difficult to find anyone to repair a screen on a cheap/obscure phone like this
not happy with the phone .the memory gets filled everythere is me time there is an app update
