Knots, 08 Oct 2014Hi Tomazz,
thanks for the reply, anyways it seems you know alot about this phone and betwee... moreThere are a few friends and a former colleague working for Asustek.
Used to work at Asus distributor many years ago, knowing managers both in Taiwan and China.
evonie85, 08 Oct 2014failed on 220.127.116.11 Take the whole 18.104.22.168 from my server and install it manually.
Chimax, 08 Oct 2014It drained only 2% in 3 hours... Which is about the same as mine did normally… the standby in KitKat has been drastically improved.
But there's something running in the background, that's polling the services and is killing the battery.
Trying to pinpoint it has been very hard as it keeps coming up with different things at the top, which make very little sense.
I still don't know what's doing it exactly. But the camera access that Google claims? That can't be.
Tomazz, 08 Oct 2014KitKat update will be back after it's fixed. Under immense pressure from the users of the phon... moreHi Tomazz,
thanks for the reply, anyways it seems you know alot about this phone and between the ASUS team, may i know the link of those info you get? or the main website of ASUS? so that i will know also the latest update for this phone? so far since i read all the opinions here specially on your side. I decided not to update yet to KITKAT, so far JB is still performing well.
evonie85, 08 Oct 2014update direct from my phone... download and install the update... phone restart and it will sa... moreWhich one failed? The 22.214.171.124 or 126.96.36.199?
You can download the full firmwares for the version that is newer than what you have installed, from here:
And then the battery fix:
Now how to update it - download the files and unzip them to say desktop.
Connect your phone with the USB cable to your computer, and copy the unzipped file for update to the root of internal memory.
When done, unplug the cable.
Maybe also check how much storage space you have on the internal drive of the phone, maybe you ran out of space if you have lots of media or apps installed?
Those above are full firmwares, not OTA. You need to install 188.8.131.52 before loading Kitkat though, unless you already have it installed.
Another note - if you plug your phone into computer and nothing happens - make sure phone is set to MTP - tap settings, then storage, and at the top right tap on USB logo. Then make sure it's set to MTP and not Camera.
If you are using Mac, use Android File Transfer to copy the file into the phone.
Make sure you put the unzipped one (with _user_ in the name) and not the file you download. Also do not unzip it further than from the original downloaded file.
Let us know how it goes :)
Chimax, 08 Oct 2014It drained only 2% in 3 hours... Seriously? Can you please cite more improvements? Is missing saved wifi and double screen locked have been fixed?
Tomazz, 07 Oct 2014There is 30% loss on capacity when battery is powering another battery.
So deduct 30%. Then... moreThanks, but that's just an option if asus can't afford to give us better battery. I just gave them a feedback and they said "Thanks for the feedback. Actually, this is a known issue and we are actively working on the fix, I believe you’ll receive another update soon. Please stay tuned." And with the wiped out kitkat firmwares on their site. I think they are really working on it already.
Another thing is after the update, i notice that the RAM is now more occupied than before. My free RAM before was more than 1GB and now, it's 600-800MB. I can't imagine that 2GB RAM can be occupied by that much. So what about with Z4 having 1GB only. What do you think?
Tomazz, 08 Oct 2014That's the battery fix we were just discussingSeems battery life issue is fixed a bit... Before the update battery drained about 30% in 7 hours in standby... Now it drained only about 2%
Tomazz, 07 Oct 2014If your JB is working properly, don't. If JB isn't fast enough for you, then you can upgrade.Asus release update 184.108.40.206. Is this new update for android kitkat? Stable or not? Or same like before?
Tomazz, 08 Oct 2014How are you trying to update?update direct from my phone... download and install the update... phone restart and it will say failed
