Sanga, 26 Oct 2014Hi..I'm still using jb 4.3 os... will Asus release an optimized kitkat version?? If yes, could... moreHere's the thing... if you upgrade OS, you need to change 2 parts of the OS, the OS and the recovery partition.

So at least 1.18.40.10 (or another update of JB) would be required at the minimum, to have a KK recovery partition, before installing KK.

Now the original KK to stable KK updates already exist, but the main problem in stabilising the system has been the settings being moved from JB to KK.

You can get a stable KK OS right now, but you would need to perform it in these steps:

- backup your phone
- wipe your phone to factory reset
- upgrade to KK
- wipe your phone to factory reset
- install incremental updates in order to 2.20.40.9
- restore your apps and settings

Some would advise to clear the cache partition as well.

Now there are a few things that need to be cleared out immediately about the updates:

- software updates cannot fix the hardware flaws
- battery life improves in standby, but not in operation, given the fairly large illuminated HD screen
- battery will still stay the same 2110 mAh and no software update can change that
- speaker still has the same amplifier which is on the quiet side, and there's only that much that software tweaking can do to make it louder

What you CAN do to improve battery life is to get a permissions manager, and shut off permissions for the tasks that apps should not have access to anyway (as these background spying tasks burn a lot of power), if you do not require to be immediately notified of emails or messages, you can set the power scheme to cut the data connection when phone is in sleep.

If you have an option, choose an operator running high frequency (1800/1900/2100 MHz) rather than 850/900 MHz bands, which burn twice the power.

Get an app that kills apps until you actually start them, so they don't automatically start when you power on the phone.

Keep the screen on automatic brightness.

Disable flip cover if you're not using the active flip case.

All that said - it still has longer battery life (and 15% higher capacity) than iPhone 6.

mikan, 26 Oct 2014Hi Tomazz, Just a curiosity question. In the full firmware update from Asus website,if ifwi.zi... moreIn general it should work fine, but there are some models of A500CG that come with different modems. Loading A501CG firmware into A500CG could give you an error, and could render the modem useless, so you'd lose data access, in some cases also calling ability and crash the moment you try to open the phone app.

The other way around this should not happen, but since 501CG is using same hardware as most of the 500CG, and as such should be supported.

But given the code for the 2 models is different, there could be different errors in them which are addressed in updates. This means that applying an update for the other model might not fix the issues your previously installed update had.

I personally prefer to stick to correct files, or combo files, which contain code for both models.

I already knew about the confirmation of Lollipop, but what matters most for now is a more stable Kitkat.

Asus really comes up with a great phone.. there is only one issue with the phone that is the brightnes is not so good as it should be in a 720 x 1280 pixels display and the battery takes time to full charge . Rest of the phone is excellent in respect of performance and everything. I really like the touch of the phone it is damn smooth

Deeoanker, 25 Oct 2014hey bro do u face any kind of problem after downgrading ur zenfone os to jelly bean ?? and w... moreNo there is no problem after dowmgrade to jellybean, after downgrade updated to 1.18.40.9 from asus website 676 mb file.
Phone is again working superb like before.
Kitkat update was a major flaw.Black screen appeared after hanging the call, phone heated too much,sd card data problem and excessive battery drain.
There is not a big difference between jelly bean and kitkat so i will stay witb jelly bean
