As for the screen, don't throw it around and you'll be fine.
If you're concerned, get 9H glass protector for the screen and a power bank.

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2014Hi, m planning to buy this phone but I hav some doubts. Am a nokia user was initially thinking... moreAsus is not new in the field. They were making Windows smart phones back in the old days and they were not bad. They manufactured some of the Nexus devices, and their spinoff Pegatron makes half of all the iPhones. They also entered the high end offerings with the Padfone series, which were for most excellent, but very pricy. I am using Padfone Infinity 2, and love it, both the phone and the "tablet" part.
Now like Nokia had to slash costs of the products to meet budgets people are willing to pay, so did Asus. They took the Padfone, and redesigned it so that it can be cheaply produced, replaced some materials and joints, separated parts to be able to reuse them on different models, etc.
Same work was done by Nokia and X series is the lowest cost smartphones family that Nokia is producing.
Nokia was bought off by Microsoft, who openly admitted that X series phones were first and last with Android, and will be retired and replaced with Windows Phone OS. There will be no updates, no access to Google Play store, nothing. But they will "use work done on X series' cost cutting in producing next generation of Windows Mobile phones".
Now Asus will at least support this phone in the future. Nokia, or rather Microsoft will not. This makes Nokia XL like buying Windows XP or Vista now. You just bought it but it's already end of life with no support.
If you are looking for a phone to last a long time, I don't think you wish to pick XL.
On the other hand, I believe both phones are built quite well, and should last several years. But it will be the OS updates that will force you to upgrade to something faster.
Just like on computers… you might still have that computer with Windows 95 and 4 MB RAM, 486 CPU sitting somewhere and it still powers on and works perfectly. You just can't get any program to work on it anymore.
AnonD-279813, 01 Sep 2014There are few phones with such a high "bang for buck" ratio out there.

lexy, 01 Sep 2014excuse me, i have some questions here. what is the disadvantages of this phone. i already know... moreDisadvantages: short battery life and non-illuminated buttons, non-removable battery, lower volume on speakerphone than some other phones.
Screen can shatter if you are throwing it on concrete floor despite Gorilla Glass 3 over the screen.
Using Atom CPU and no KitKat out yet, so full performance is not yet achieved as JellyBean has no power nor speed optimisations for Atom processors.

Get Greenify or similar battery saving app, that stops apps from automatically starting.
If you're a gamer, or if you have weak cellular 3G signal, or if you have high brightness on display and have it on a lot of the time, get a power bank.
AnonD-297931, 01 Sep 2014i would like to raise the same question..will zen5 catch local fm stations?does it comes with ... moreIt has 88-108 MHz in 0.1 MHz increments. Every international version of ZenFone 4, 4.5, 5 and 6 has FM tuner.
Can't comment on Chinese versions, or A500CG, although the manual for it shows FM Radio app without any remarks that it would only be supported on some models.
But it requires headset or headphones to be connected as it uses them as antenna.
Hi, m planning to buy this phone but I hav some doubts. Am a nokia user was initially thinking to buy XL as I know that Nokia phones very durable but then I got to knw about Asus n it certainly has bttr specs. I want to buy zenfone 5 but nt sure of its durabilty. I want a phone that I can use for a long time once I hav purchased it. Asus is a new brand in terms of phones in India and there are also issues with its battary as evry1's saying. Am nt a heavy user but m one of those people who surf net a lot n read ebuks. So please tell me if this brand is that reliable or not n if the battary life of the phone is rather bad?
excuse me, i have some questions here. what is the disadvantages of this phone. i already know about its advantages but still confusing about whether want to buy it or not.

i would like to raise the same question..will zen5 catch local fm stations?does it comes with fm? bcoz when look in flipkart specifications it does not shows the same..please reply..i m just doing my buy request on flipkart
Anonymous, 01 Sep 2014Does asus zenfone 5 has FM Radio ??Yes, it does.
But do note that it has 0.1 MHz steps, and not 0.05 MHz steps.
Meaning 102.5 MHz is OK, but 102.75 MHz is not.
I don't know how frequencies are assigned in your area, but in Bangkok there's a station every 0.25 MHz, which makes Asus (and basically every other phone) FM tuner not the best choice.
It also requires headset/headphones to be plugged in, but sound quality and reception is good. I never used original headset, but tested on VModa headset.
