Jeet, 28 Aug 2014Using this phone from last 1 week. SAR value is 2.0W/KG which is very high. Feeling pain in bo... moreFrom WIKI:

United States: the FCC requires that phones sold have a SAR level at or below 1.6 watts per kilogram (W/kg) taken over the volume containing a mass of 1 gram of tissue that is absorbing the most signal.
European Union: CENELEC specify SAR limits within the EU, following IEC standards. For mobile phones, and other such hand-held devices, the SAR limit is 2 W/kg averaged over the 10 g of tissue absorbing the most signal (IEC 62209-1).
India: switched from the EU limits to the US limits for mobile handsets in 2012. Unlike the US, India will not rely solely on SAR measurements provided by manufacturers; random compliance tests are done by a government-run Telecommunication Engineering Center (TEC) SAR Laboratory on handsets and 10% of towers. All handsets must have a hands free mode.[4]

Nevermind - that option means whether to use LTE or 3G/2G only.

On LTE model there is no option to set it to use 2G only.

Like there is no option to use GPRS only and not EDGE for 3G model.

So - in summary - on LTE version you can set it to use LTE (4G) or use 3G/2G only.

There are no cosmetic differences between TOOF and TOOJ models, and they are by large identical. However TOOF may have different Wifi and cellular modem modules.

AnonD-289600, 29 Aug 2014I saw opinions about chinese models/fake models, how can we surely recognize that we are buyin... moreI don't think there are any "fake" as in counterfeited models of this phone out there. It would cost as much as the selling price of original is just to make one to work half as well as the original. That doesn't mean that someone would not try and pack a 10$ crap into ZF5 lookalike box. Or a piece of wood in the plastic…

However what complaint here was that CN, TW, CHT versions come with Chinese OS, CU-ANDROID (Chinese Universal) rather than WWE-ANDROID (WorldWideEnabled) version.

Difference is that WWE version includes ALL the languages, while CU version has English, and then a few variants of Chinese, not being able to add more languages.

Another thing is that some Amazon sellers not only sold Chinese models, but also rooted them and loaded some unofficial firmware that left Asus service centres scratching their heads.

So best bet is to buy from Asus distributor in your country, or from a reputable shop, which allows a 7 days exchange if product is not as advertised.

If you are buying a phone in a physical shop, check the back of the box, where the sticker is and make sure it states A501CG and WWE-ANDROID. That is if you're buying 8 or 16 GB 3G version. We also suggest you get model with 2 GB RAM.

But if you're buying from online store, ask up-front what version it is, and only buy from shops that allow return if product differs from description.

You will be able to download the KitKat file with PC from Asus website, and place it on JellyBean firmwared phone via USB cable.

However, once KitKat is installed, that might be a little complicated, as you might lose root folder access on the phone from PC.

RF Exposure information (SAR) - CE
This device meets the EU requirements (1999/519/EC) on the limitation of exposure of the general public to electromagnetic fields by way of health protection.
The limits are part of extensive recommendations for the protection of the general public. These recommendations have been developed and checked by independent scientific organizations through regular and thorough evaluations of scientific studies. The unit of measurement for the European Council’s recommended limit for mobile devices is the “Specific Absorption Rate” (SAR), and the SAR limit is 2.0 W/Kg averaged over 10 gram of body tissue. It meets the requirements of the International Commission on Non- Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).
For next-to-body operation, this device has been tested and meets the ICNRP exposure guidelines and the European Standard EN 62311 and EN 62209-2. SAR is measured with the device directly contacted to the body while transmitting at the highest certified output power level in all frequency bands of the mobile device.

The highest CE SAR value for the device is 0.530 W/Kg.
