Review after using for 7 days :-
1.Display:- just awesome.every icon /picture text appears so crisp,im in love with its display.
2.Lag Free:- This phone does not know what is lagging in smartphones. with its 2gb RAM and intel processor with hyper threading tech it runs butter smooth.
3.camera : its 8mp cam is simply great.different modes are interesting like low, light, time rewind, selfie etc.front cam is also v good.
4.Battery :-some reviews are saying less backup, but i was happy that it runs whole day after using it moderately for calling, net, games.
5.OTG Support:- immediately after swing on i received notification for updating. now my PEN Drive is supported.i was MORE THAN HAPPY for this feature.
6.Value for Money : Remember its not a set which cost you 20k(which its worth for) . its only 10k-8gb model.
Every one after seeing this phone guess it to be 15-20k as its a premium looking device.
My advise to those who are thinking to buy is to not think twice. Not listen to the negative reviews. even S5 has lot of negative comments.
ITS a MUST BUY PRODUCT.

I've never experienced any WiFi dropouts (I do a lot of music and video streaming) nor do I experience any GPS issues (I use Waze on a daily basis).
I'm on stock firmware but I don't think those two are firmware related based on the TS steps most people did on the forums here and everywhere else on the web.
My variant is 1.6ghz 16gb internal + 2gb ram.
If you encounter any issues mentioned above, do not try to waste your time troubleshooting as a lot of people did that already had no luck as it is not a firmware problem but a hardware design flaw.
Go to the Asus Service Center and have your phone replaced.

Because while connecting, the device ... moreIn my case, Windows 7 Professional 64bit, it shows as device, but on clicking on it, it opens 2 drives, one for internal memory, and one for SD card, if it is inserted in the phone.
On Mac I use Android File Transfer. At the top it also shows selection between Internal Memory and SD Card.
The MacOS is 10.8.5.
How to transfer files normally to/from PC by usb cable ? Because while connecting, the device gets connected as MTP device. Not showing the sd card storage in PC. So how to file transfer ?
I won't recommend it. I bought one for my girlfriend. She's using it for 3 months or so and not very satisfied. Pictures taken and videos recorded at daylight are not so good. And it constantly lags whenever you use it for fb, browser or anything else. It also heats up very much when you are using it more than 10 minutes. Positives are that night mode on camera is just perfect and the battery is very good. Screen is also great.

The 16 GB versions sold in Thailand are all 1.6 GHz, but in Taiwan they are 2.0 GHz.
I am not sure what the specs are in your country.
If buying in a shop, check what's written on the sticker at the back of the box, if buying from online store, check specifications or ask the seller.

At that time I'll also load it to my server. You then have a choice to download it either from Asus site or from my server.
Anyway, you'd download that with your PC.
Then you would unzip the file that you download.
Take USB cable and plug phone into your PC (if it's a Mac, you'll need Android File Transfer app). The device will show in Computer/My Computer.
Double click on it and you'll see a drive of internal memory (and if you have, another for SD card).
Copy the unzipped file to the root of the internal memory and wait for copy to complete. Eject the device, unplug the cable.
Now you should have notification that new system update is available, asking if you want to install it.
Install. Phone reboots, wait for it to complete, it reboots again, done.
All your settings should be preserved on upgrade.

AnonD-296182, 28 Aug 2014you don't even need 1500 for a power bank
xiaomi mi 10400 mah power bank, which is current... moreI am using… well, not using… I have… used to use it a lot before with iPhone… The Yoobao 10,400 mAh.
The one that looks like Apple TV shape, just smaller.
A bit too easy to scratch plastic, but overall very solid built, and worked well.
Thanks to that I think the only real reason for removable battery would be the ability to extend phone life when battery dies.
On Samsung or Oppo you can change battery. Yes, but for that you need to buy another battery (costs 1/3 of the ZF5 price) and another external charger (costs as much as this phone) and carry this bulk with you.
USB power bank on the other hand costs close to nothing, requires no extra charger, can power other phones as well, and in bulk is generally smaller and lighter than stock battery charger plus the battery.
So while I still think it's nice to be able to remove battery and replace it (which on ZF5 can be done, but warranty gets void - as you need to remove the inner screws and one has a warranty void sticker on, and then remove one of the boards before you can pull battery out) it is not really a disaster for it to be built-in.
Anyone considering buying a replacement battery - the price is same as ZF4 phone. No kidding.
AnonD-292829, 28 Aug 2014Hi
Meanwhile Tomazz replies,
if you are moving from firmware version 1 to 2 to 3 to 4,then ... moreCorrect, you have an option of installing incremental updates one by one, then you only need to apply the small files in proper sequence and without missing any of them out.
If you want to skip, or if you missed something, download the full version of the next one, to replace all the OS.
AnonD-296182, 27 Aug 2014hey tomaz
i have got 4 updates till now
i don't remember the actual file size
but
they... moreThe small updates are only incremental - they do not include complete firmware, and are only updates from previous version.
They are intended for OTA updates only, where phone has a mechanism to check whether prerequisites are there to install them (so it won't install 1.17 if 1.16 isn't already installed).
Manually, of course you could install 1.17 by placing it in the phone memory, it would not check anything, and possibly break your phone, expecting prerequisites being there.
The updates on Asus site are full firmware - they do not require previous version to be installed, as they are complete OS with all previous updates included.
In all my previous posts with instructions how to update the phone firmware, I was referring to these full firmware files of about 700 MB, and NOT FOTA updates.
If your phone has a problem because of a FOTA update that missed a version, there are options of using USB driver and rooting tool to install the full firmware again, or if you're uncomfortable doing that, waiting for next version to be released, do NOT update it OTA, but download full firmware file and copy it to root of the phone's internal memory, to reinstall complete OS.
1.18 is not far off :)
