In comparison to 9700 under 3G it also has HSPDA 2100 aside from CDMA/EVDORevA 800/1900 and the 9700 has HSPDA 850/1900/2100 and HSPDA 900/1700/2100. What does this mean? Does it use the same network as 9700 + another network?
BB, 02 May 2010This Bold 9650 uses: CMAD/EVDO network type, so if your carrier provide this network, then 100... moreHey! Seems u know much. Is it a GSM or CDMA or both? + when I compared, there was a difference in OS, CPU. U said it uses CDMA/EVDO network but it also mentions HSDPA 2100 (9700 has HSPDA 850/1900/2100 and HSPDA 900/1700/2100). I don't understand all these specifications. Can 9650 do all that 9700 can do? What are the shoertcomings in relation to 9700?

Ansh, 10 Jun 2010Should not this be TOUR 9650 instead of being called a BOLD?? I mean it looks exactly like my ... moreThe name was changed before it was released for unknown reasons. The most common belief is that it was to avoid running into more issues with Tour users, being that the Tour had a lot of issues everywhere. They were already pissed at having their device reach EOL less than a year after release. Also, now the CDMA users can have a Bold as well, being that the Bold series is top-notch compared to other models.
without secondary camera and atleast 5 mpix main camera what is the use of blackberry with 3G? i am waiting for such a phone in blackberry. can u guys please say me when will they introduce such piece?
Anonymous, 03 Jun 2010for those who have good experience with both BB and iphone.. I'm still considering whether to ... moreThere would not be a major difference in the prices between the 9650 and Iphone. But its about preference. BBs are usually associated with swift and secure emailing services. Recent blackberries are great with social networking also. However Everything else is a plus on BB. I use a 9630 tour and i swear by Blackberry. Its the best ever. But my priorities are different. The Iphone is much more fun. The screen is fantastic(the BB is as good)..the apps/games/OS is mindblowing and there are a lot of aftermarket tweaking that you can use to customise ur Iphone. So go for either and you would not regret. Have a look at the HTC desire also..It took my breath away, definitely my next phone !!
Should not this be TOUR 9650 instead of being called a BOLD?? I mean it looks exactly like my tour with the optical trackpad instead of the joystick. The tour has decent brand recall. I think its cheap to call this a Bold(encashing on Bold's popularity is one thing but thinking the customer is a fool is another). Hope this is a mistake and would be rectified.
Hi,
I would like to express the differences on this phone I swapped.
I upgraded from a Blackberry Tour 9630 to the Blackberry Bold 9650
*-This phone is CDMA and also GSM, it could be activated for example with Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T etc.
*-Some people get confused with the change of name on the 9650 with “BOLD” instead of putting “Tour 2”, what I think is that blackberry wants to assign name models to specific types of their phones, for example the “8xxx series with Curve”, “9xxx series with Bold” “Candy Bar type series with Pearl”, “Touch screen series with Storm” “Flip series with Pearl Flip”
Any ways these are the differences I have noticed between the Blackberry Tour 9630 with the Blackberry Bold 9650
*-WI-FI added.
*-Track-Ball upgrades to Track-Pad
*-The Blackberry Bold 9650 keyboard is more compact, buttons are more together and
softer to type in.
*-The green symbol on the SEND button on the Blackberry Bold 9650 is pointing up, on the Blackberry Tour 9630 points down.
*-Internal memory upgraded on the Blackberry Bold 9650, moves much faster even if you have a lot of information in the phone, the Blackberry Tour 9630 used to freeze numerous times.
*-The Blackberry Bold 9650 is slightly heavier than the Blackberry Tour 9630
*-5.0 OS already installed on The Blackberry Bold 9650.
*-The convenience key on the LEFT or RIGHT side on other BlackBerries I’ve had, I used to assign it to execute the KEYBOARD LOCK, now on the Blackberry Bold 9650 you cannot do this, I guess the company wants us to use the original KEYBOARD LOCK button located on the upper left side of the phone.
*-On The Blackberry Bold 9650 when receiving calls, sms, or emails etc, you can put it to vibrate AND ring at the same time, on the Blackberry Tour 9630 and other blackberry models I’ve had you can only set it to vibrate THEN ring.
*-The Blackberry Bold 9650 bar signal have the type of service in small letters for example “1xev” on the Blackberry Tour 9630 displays “1XEV”
*-The Blackberry Bold 9650 when you charge the phone with the keyboard locked the phone does not display the big numbered clock, if you would like to view the big numbered clock while charging it has to be keyboard unlocked, with the Blackberry Tour 9630 it’ll display the big numbered clock with keyboard locked or unlocked, I like the Tour 9630 in this option, wish I can modify that part.
*- The Blackberry Bold 9650 displays the contact name and number if stored in the phonebook, on the Blackberry Tour 9630 if contact is stored in the phone book it will only display the name without the number.
That’s all I noticed for now.
Thanx
the 9700 is pretty much identical to this new 9650 ... its a waste of time bringing out a new phone and not updating any of its features

Sy@baz, 30 May 2010Need secondary camera!!! cammon BB.I think that no need this function. Because you have a few times to user it. BB must upgrade CPU and RAM to larger, so BB is very fast, verry good. Tks
Chris, 26 May 2010Why is this phone on this site if it is a CDMA phone? I thought the phones on here are all GSM?This phone is cdma + gsm :p

Blackberry all the way i phone is just a gimmick for example you don't need 100 apps to tell you the weather the novelty wears out and you soon run out of party tricks. Were the blackberry stands its the most reliable and secure product on the market it has solutions for both organisation and entertainment.
