There are ways around the battery life issue. Obviously, it is a thinner phone with a faster processor, so it is bound to consume power quicker. One simple way to prolong the battery life is to dim the backlighting to 40% or 50% (makes no real difference), and setting the timeout to 10 seconds. It works. Where there is good network coverage, the battery should last just as good as any other BlackBerry.
To all BB 9900 users and Intended users: I have been very disappointed with BB 9900 Battery life untill Yesterday. All you need to perform the following and you will be amazed with Battery performance. It suprisingly boosts up like anyother fone. All you need to do:
1- Switch from 3G(HSDPA) to 2G(EDGE), though you can switch back whenever needed.
2- Refrain fro Apps those frequantly download information like weather apps etc.
3- Install an App called Battery Booster (its free and very effective)
4-Turn off Location services. We dont need it in ost cases.
After performing these tasks my BB 9900 Batterylife is effectively increased. Location services and 3G on BB takes major part of Battery. If you turn that off you will see the difference.
I hope it resolve the issue. If you find it effective please spread the word and stop whinning. Thanks
I noticed that the 9900 camera takes poor pictures and when u try to zoom its terrible, in comparison to the 9780
adel, 17 Oct 2011I want to buy blackberry mobile which is better the 9900 or 9780 can someone tell me9900 is too new, software issues.. needs a few months for bugs to be ironed out.
9780 is best, longer battery life......... also is a bit cheaper too. but old 9780 and new curve are similar!!!
Great phone , pathetic battery, on 3g u get max 5 hours, change to 2g and ui get 10 on heavy use
I want to buy blackberry mobile which is better the 9900 or 9780 can someone tell me
I think 9900 is a great phone, awesome display, faster than my old 9700. Only need to improve the battery.
the phone speaks quality and passion , the price is the only factor what the world seeks
I got mine 5 days ago. Mainly use the phone for Blackberry Messenger, Whatsapp, SMS and little browsing. On first impression the battery lasted 7 hours with barely any use. (*I'll try again soon, maybe BIS being down was the reason*). I then turned 3G off (it uses EDGE instead) and the phone has lasted for the past 3 days! Quite impressive if you can do without 3G or turn it on when needed. As far as the browsing experience - good with the pinch feature but I dislike the mobile browsing in general for the small screen. Im holding out for Opera Mini for 9900. The body is amazing: A step up from previous models into iPhone territory - so thin and the silver bezel looks incredible. The keypad is perfect, quite a lot better then the 9780. Great phone, the best I've used.
Orange Orange Orange UK where is the UMA option. This is my Third Blackberry, Most expensive and the main option i want. Very disappointed. UMA option was on all the original sales info but it has now been removed.
Battery life yes poor but you will have to manage it by auto turning off device at night and you might just get a day out of it.
hey people i have moved over from the 9700 to the 9900. i love the phone, emailing is so nice on the phone with the new keypad. screen looks lovely too. i dont really care about video zoom as that is not what a phone is for. Yes the battery life is bad and i am not sure if i will move back to my old phone but other then that i do love it.
Blackberry is the most shameless brand cheats, in country Oman 9900 costs around 680 USA dollars. monthly charges starting from of carrier is 25 dollars & usage free of 50 mb only for blackberry only... carrier rental, call, sms, etc charges extra.
RB, 13 Oct 2011Does 9900 need an update to solve the battery problem. Read many complaints about this matter.... moreI'm not a bb expert, however I share frustrations of others pertaining to battery life. Seems there are a number of defensive people who seem to think the production of a phone supercedes the phones experience. Personally I am happier with my 9700. I really do think its worth a look around at the options. I was shocked by prices that were 20 percent or less on other phones and that have fewer issues and more functions. Make sure you buy a spare battery - you'll need it.
If you are thinking of upgrading be sure to look around. This phone doesn't have a video zoom, whilst competitors have 3D recording.Application world is still a snore and lacks interoprability with applications such as Shazam. Battery runs dead whilst I sleep, even if fully charged when going to sleep.Near tag is useless and poorly understood in South Africa-especially by promo or store clerks.Reception is near non existant. It costs much more then competitive products. Browsing is not a breeze. I'm so disguisted with this phone, I am selling it and moving back to a feature rich phone with capabilities that the BB doesn't have. Alternatively I am moving back to the old bold. The only benefit to this phone is more memory, pretty useless if it doesn't stay on long enough to use.
