This phone could have been the best phone of all times, and I include Iphone and androids, only if it wasn't for the bad audio (bad speaker with a muffled sound both when you use handsfree speakers and answer incoming calls on the handset). How and why would a mobile phone company make its audio worse on a new model, not better ? Bold 9700 had a clear loud and wonderful sound. Why would you make the next one so bad??

Pros: Great keyboard, great resolution, fast processor, very responsive touch screen, HD video recording, a lot of memory, multitasking, great email and messaging integration and media features, loud speakers, the phone is not bulky. It is lightweight and feels good in the hand. After using Blackberry phones for a few years, this is the first time I felt I finally had a proper and smooth web browsing experience.

Cons: Bad battery life. This can be slightly improved but still can't compare to previous BB devices.
The camera lacks autofocus, pictures are not that good, Youtube videos can only look great over WIFI, you can't remove the sim card without taking out the battery.

You can have a couple of games and a few apps but if you download too much stuff, the phone will get laggy.

This is not the phone if all you want to do is play games but it's great for media, email, messaging, web browsing, and as a communications device.

I just bought this fone and it`s amazing, the built quality and tha design and the keyboard that really makes u wanna write more & more & more :)
one question, it shows me that there is an upgrade to os 7.1 but is it worth it? I mean I don`t have any problems with the phone and I know that usually any upgrade is wellcomed.
thank you guys

I am intending to get my first BB phone soon. Tired of all those high end smart phones popping out all over the market now.
-How is BB B9900's batt life? (let's say less than 1hour talktime a day, with minimum Facebook/Whatsapp surfing)
-Bold 9900 or 9790? I understand the 9790 is abit smaller and cost lesser.
-Anybody can advice if BB suports, WhatsApp?

All advices greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Blackberry Bold 9900

The built-in processor, although a single-core 1.2GHz, which is fast enough to perform most tasks. The BB OS seems to me a lot more solid and intelligent than the ones on my previous phones (I have owned all the three major Oss in the past few years).

While the 7.1 OS allows Wi-Fi calling, the built-in wireless card has a surprisingly low sensitivity at 5GHz, but 2.4 is working fine. Skype is not available through T-Mobile (well, one can borrow a SIM card from a friend with another carrier that supports Skype for a few minutes if needed), and Wi-Fi operation, while about 4x faster than 4G, reduce my minutes at T-Mobile.

One of the reasons I bought this was to make sure I could use my phone hands-free. The speakerphone feature is satisfactory; although it could still be a bit louder and produce less distortion (do not take me wrong, this unit is just fine at maxed-out volume). Callers report that they can hear me absolutely clearly even when I am on the speakerphone.

I like the security features. As far as I know, BB is the only brand available in the US that scrambles my calls; that is good when you have to call in sensitive data. I remember, a similar program for the Android would have cost $300 alone. (On the downside, BB proprietary data scrambling works only with an Enterprise server and T-Mobile security replaces it on phone calls.)

Fast and easy setup of e-mail accounts, but no Outlook-like buttons unless you purchase some extra program (I did). The unit, unlike Android and Nokia phones (I have owned both), comes with the programs that read MS Office and .pdf attachments.

The screen is relatively small, but bright; it is visible in direct sunlight. The touch/swipe feature works flawlessly. This screen is probably too small for watching anything consequential, but I wanted a business phone, not a multimedia or a gaming one. Sadly, the screen is small enough to make it virtually impossible to read the news on it, unless you have the time and patience to use the magnifying feature. It is still fine for messages. There is no output for an external monitor either.

Battery life is satisfactory, but not great, unless you pick up an extended battery on the net, which can increase the calling time by 50-75%. Standby time is great; without much usage, you do not have to recharge the battery for 3-5 days (depending on the apps running in the background).

The keyboard feels sturdy and reliable. My only complaint is that I have to press two buttons for 'Delete.' I cannot see this as a safety feature, because I have to confirm 'Delete' after pressing it. In addition, I have not been able to switch between US and foreign keyboards without going into settings.

The body feels solid, but I have bought a soft Otter case that might protect the phone against drops. The screen is probably gorilla glass; it is pleasant to touch and it does not feel vulnerable to scratches at all. The whole thing feels like it is going to outlast its technology by quite a few years.

The camera comes with a flash and a built-in zoom. 5MP is plenty for me; I have a regular camera for high-quality photos.

You can tether the phone if you want to use its Internet on your net-book (but TM charges an extra $25 for that, which is a joke, considering the connection speed; about 4MB/s instead of the 14.4MB/s the specs say; granted, that is partly T-Mobile).

I had to buy an alarm clock program, because the one installed is not customizable for a weekly schedule, and I did not want to clutter up my scheduler/calendar with alarms.

The free GPS works well, although you will probably need a BT speaker in the car, because you will probably want to hear the instructions instead of watching the screen while driving.

While web browsing is fast on the Wi-Fi, the 4G here is a bit slow at 4 bars.

As the sound and the build quality are fine, I expect that you can get good music quality from this with good earplugs. I would never use my phone for music.
The device come with few and mostly useless ringtones, but you can transfer your MP3 files to it from your computer (BB or USB).

Do not even dream about gaming on this; this is a business phone, made for syncing your schedule with your computer, keeping you up-to-date, enabling you to handle your e-mail on the road, and making good quality secure phone calls.

Best phone I have seen or used. Keyboard is very easy to use. Love BBM and BBM Music. NFC very functional and coming quickly to VISA. Camera very good. Battery lasts for days (unless you leave Bluetooth and NFC on, then only good for 8 or 9 hours). Love it. Gave one to my son, who threw away his Iphone and never looked back.
