I'm 45 years old. Married. Kids. Live in South Africa. Business Owner employ over 100 people. We all use Macs and have been doing so for almost 15 years. In the office we have about 60 iPads, everyone has a Mac Laptop and approximately 50 iMacs.
When it came to getting company phones the obvious choice was the iPhone. Everything would just work and sync seamlessly. I purchased the iPhone S and all went well - very well - a great phone with fantastic apps etc.
Then the monthly cellphone bill arrived. I honestly couldn't believe my eyes. The data usage was so high that it drove my cost up by an additional R700 (Just short of $100). That's crazy even for an established business - just multiply that by 100 every month and I'll be bankrupt!
To cut a long story short, I ended up issuing the staff with the Bold 9900. Once the initial set-up and syncs were done - we have not not had a single complaint nor fuss. And my additional costs? R54 per month, per phone.
I use a telephone for making calls, receiving my emails, calendar and very occasionally I'll look at the sports score via the browser. And you know what? The BlackBerry just works effortlessly every time. And that's what people like me want. We want things to work first time because that's what we were promised when we purchased the unit in the first place.
Don't get me wrong the iPhone is a great phone. It's fantastic. Brilliant technology with a masterful mind behind it - But it's just a step too much. Too many gizmo's. Too many apps with too many buttons. I just want a phone and the BlackBerry Bold 9900 has, at least for this user - and his staff - outshone the rest.
I have used the bold touch for over 2 weeks now and here's my obsrvations:
*the phone is very fast
*the browser speed is blazing
*the battery drains abt a day...so u may have to charge everyday.
For people that keep comparing BB to iphone, I don't see the basis. BB is strictly a messenger....best messenger phone in the world. Iphone is equally a great fone.
Recommend this phone anyday
I'm wanting to choose btw the BB bold9780 and the touch 9900. Which would you guys recommend. Seem to be quite a few negative comments on the touch. Is the battery life really that bad for the touch and excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is the auto focus that it doesn't have and why is it so NB. Thanks
hatti, 13 Mar 2012I bought 9900 last week. I have some problems when I press the yes button to call somebody, th... moreyou probably have something on your proximity sensor, screen protector/housing/case its designed to shut the screen down when its close to something during a call like ur ears to avoid the accidental pressing/tapping on touch sensitive pane resulting to unwanted actions like ending the call or something else like going into apps.
At the end of october 2011 their were over 70 million BB subscribers worldwide,,thats an amazing community..
Well I just got my new 9900 blackberry white from like 2 days ago and ill be testing if it has any problems but and I like the key board and the screen I'm not having any problems with it yet
I bought 9900 last week. I have some problems when I press the yes button to call somebody, the screen gets black. And also the screen is shaking sometimes. please help me what can I do.
I have been using 9900 for about 3 months. I always had issues with the screen not locking up while on call and it does weird things. I have no idea why BB decided to place the sensor to the right of the speaker, which is the reason for the phone not locking up while on call. The leather pouch that comes with the phone is a joke. It is really hard to get the phone out and there are buttons where we are supposed to hold the phone and pull it out of the pouch. I loved the keyboard. Overall I am not satisfied with the phone and planning to sell it.
love the phone :D , but i don't know why people always want to add things and change things in good devices.....if you need the features that bad then simply buy a tier one phone. But for me its good enough and it does what its designed to do very well.
Nichlolas, 11 Mar 2012Found this from comment, is it true? Sad blackberry os. I though blackberry os is good fo... moream very certain if you check the BB function well, it performs the most the functions you mentioned.
I have sold my 9900 and no there was nothing wrong with it just with no auto focus i could not live with it..I have gone for the torch 9810 with hi-def video and auto focus and better battery hopefully..I know its heavier but i got my auto-focus back..If you like bb9900 but need auto focus plus better battery the 9790 is another alternative.
I love BB with its real buttons but cannot understand person below with his 5000 emails..Unless he is holding onto the past or in delegation on a 10 year project and needs proof of emails from 5yrs just let go man..
BB needs to improve the PPI density, big time. Also, their phones need to be thinner but they are quite light anyway. Like the use of carbon fibre on the back panel. Needs 4G.
I have This phone, its a superb blackberry yet except battery.Blackberry should introduce successor of this, with Dual core processor, 8MP camera with AUTO FOCUS & 1080p video recording. Front camera for 3g video calling & off course with better battery backup.

Sad blackberry os. I though blackberry os is good for business but its actually not. Famous on email? Not at all!
I have more than 5000 emails in my hotmail, and there is not option for me to set up a microsoft exchange hotmail account with this 9790. I need 5000 of this emails to be sync everyday with a push mail functionality like my s2 and iphone 4.
Blackberry famous in push mail? What a joke, my iphone and android phone can push my mail easily with a microsoft exchange account, you can set any email like yahoo, gmail, hotmail etc with microsoft exchange.
Dont ask why i need all of my mails to be in my phone, my emails is my data base, i store all my conversation and quotation in my email server and i can search it even in offline mode.
I am very surprise that none of the peoples who using blackberry have this problem. I even went to blackberry service center to ask this and they dont even have a solution for me.
Blackberry, push mail? Android and ios can do this easily. BBM? Whatsapp can do this perfectly. What else does blackberry offer? Nothing at all for me.
Blackberry is famous because its launch and telling consumer is a business phone at first, consumer thinking of a business phone is great but i want you all to know that you are wrong. Blackberry os is no way in comparing to android and ios not even the old symbian.
Dont try to be a follower that seeing other using blackberry and you want it too, you will just make your life difficult.
Try do a research in the web MICROSOFT EXCHANGE FOR HOTMAIL IN BLACKBERRY, you will get none of it.
Surprise that no one mention this to the community, means that you only need your daily current mail, how about you old emails for example year 2005 emails which are very important?
SHAME ON YOU BLACKBERRY. One more thing, blackberry needs additional charges in BIS AND BES to enjoy full functionality, not including a data usage. You have to pay extra to get what? BBM AND PUSH MAIL? Lol, i need a cheap data plan to get all of this done perfectly.
Good luck guys, think before you switch.
Battery is bad, I am holding 3x battery for my daily use. Loading time is super long ever i experience.
Got this Phone last week and loving every bit of it.. silky smooth keypad, amazing touch and well built.. Fast browser and fast processor.. Battery last for a day with regular use.. overall quite satisfied..
