I think it was just plain and simple bad luck. Sorry mate! Faulty BBs are rarely heard of. Ive had the 8300 for almost 6months with no issues regarding the trackball. I know tonnes of ppl who r using it with no complaints what so ever.
Just bought the 8300 on 22 oct 2007 from bpl mobile, the track ball got spoilt in 28 days,no back up for blackberry service in mumbai, had to fight with them to get a replacement,I can well imagine what will happen after 1 year of use,bad phone to own.speed of bpl server very very slow, reliance much better

Found an app that will let you view ms docs, here is the link
Seems we have to wait for the release of Documents To Go.

Have I read correctly? Can you not read word, excel and powerpoint docs?
Google maps will work with a bluetooth GPS units for the 8300
but it needs to constantly downloads the maps, In cant store them.

Not Windows, it's a BlackBerry Operating System, it's all Java based.
I love this device. The organiser, the qwerty keyboard, e-mail on the go. It fits really well in the palm of your hand.
i would like to know however, if there's a way to put a password on folders that are created on the device
