You can download 9Apps application which allows you to download BB Q10\BB10 compatible android applications.
Blackberry will definitely upgrad its bb10 software to android that would support whatsapp and facebook, but I'm not sure of bold 5 down if whatsapp will work on the device

Does it m... moreNot only whatsapp but facebook app for BB10 won't be supported anymore after 31 Desember 2016. I'm quite sad with the news since I mostly use whatsapp and facebook app for communication with family and friends. I like Q10 though since it's very durable and reliable. I tried installing whatsapp android apk and didn't seem to work. I guess it's time to switch phone to IOS or Android OS.

I tried that. 9Apps will work as BB App World. All android applications will work except some games.
Pls I just got a new Q10 and I'm still waiting to get a notification for an update dats from 10.2 to 10.3.2. Pls how do I go about it cuz I'm worried. Pls you can reach me with this email@example.com
Have a Q10 white and 128bg memory card worked fine, it downloaded some drivers automatically.
If an Android apk needs to be installed on this, you can't just install it from SD card, you need a separate app for that, like the user below me has mentioned?
Could someone please confirm this? I can get any apk I want from Google Play, but need to know whether they all are compatible or not.
For all those who have this phone....
Perform a google search to find apk file for 9Apps application, and download & install this application. You will be able to find almost 90% play store applications\android applications on this app. You can download and install all available android applications like you do on Play Store. All famous applications are available on this app.
I was so unhappy when Facebook and WhatsApp decided\announced to discontinue their applications in 2017 for BB OS. There are very few applications on BlackBerry App World. I had not been enjoying using this phone because of limited applications. On my day off, I tried to download some android applications as I heard that this phone supports some android applications. I found this amazing application (9Apps) when I tried to find few android applications for this phone. Now, I'm enjoying using this great phone. However, Android games may not work. I think that this phone is used by people who don't care about games. Hence, that isn't an issue. I believe that this incredibly helpful app will make your user experience better.
I thank developer\s of this app.

Anonymous, 11 Apr 2016Don't compare each other . Both are high end phones for different purposeQ10 is not high end. Q10 is middle-entry device. This is based on specs, price, form factor, target audience and marketing strategy. Passport and Priv are high end BB devices. Not even the Classic can be called high end tbh.

Some crash, some lag like crazy. Don't buy a BB10 device thinking it can do what an Android one does. Side-loading on BB10 is just a workaround and was probably made to get users accustomed to Android ecosystem so that the transition to Priv will be a smoother one.
BB10 is drawing its last breath, BlackBerry will not make another device that supports it, they shifter their mobile division to Android. 2 more Android phones will be released this year alone and that says a lot about their business model.

However, they are pretty limited in functionality and most require to be purchased in order to unlock the extra features.
Lately Facebook announced that they will discontinue support for BB10 so ending with 2016 you won't be able to use the official apps for the Facebok service. This means Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp, Instagram will not work natively.
Sure, you can always side-load Android apps, but because there is no Google Play Store available for BB10, you will run into certain issues with certain apps. IMO the side-load experience is not that great, some apps won't work, some will have poor performance and other will crash.
Q10 and BB10 right now is only viable for productivity work. It's amazing for emails and messages, for meetings, calendars and the office suite. But as far as multimedia and social media goes, you're better off using Android.
