I recently bought the torch its a good phone but the volume of the ringing and other notifications seem too soft even if set to the loudest, can somebody help? Thanks
I used this phone for a few days but it sucks if your a heavy user. I upgraded from a 9700 to the 9800. On my 9700 I installed the OS 6 so when I started to use the 9800 the only upgrade really was the touch screen part. I am not a lover of such screen phones as its always been messy to type particularly if your using it to type precise biz msgs.
The big downside of the 9800 for me was
1) Very poor battery life. You would find it difficult to get a day.
2) Whilst on a call the mute button would get pressed quite often from the touch screen when the screen part touched your cheek. Very annoying for me.
3) There is no predictive text on the T9 display on the touch screen part. This is a big draw back. On the reduced keyboard the predictive text works but its not the same. I guess it take some getting used to.
4) The speed dials programmed to the whole keyboard is not accessible from the touch display. For example if you had programmed a no to speed dial on the letter M you could only use by pressing the M on the keypad. If you pressed the M on the full keypad on the touch screen it would not speed dial. However, on the telephone keypad nos 2 to 9 your speed dials would work using the touch screen.
5) For those using the GMAIL app on the phone you could not using the GMAIL short cut keys from the screen. You would have to open the keypad.
6) There is no convenience key on the left of the phone.
All in all I sued the phone for about 10 days and my user experience was average considering the price. My suggesting if your using the 9700 upgrade to OS 6 and you would not miss out on anything. You can get the OS 6 from the Blackberry Site look under Indian Service Provider Vodafone Essar.
Good luck. If you need any help email me to firstname.lastname@example.org
I think this is one of the best BB's yet. The 9870 is not too bad either. i especially like the choice oftouchscreen or qwerty key board. the designt is absolutely sweet.

I am using the torch for the past 3 weeks. I have been a BB user for the past 1 year, and for me its a worthy upgrade. The BB torch is an excellent piece of machine and it gives the feel of a really mobile phone. The touch sensitive is very good. On the flip side i feel its kinda a wee bit heavy, and the volume is not as good as bold but apart from that its a wonderful phone. Its is ideal for business user or for a moderate consumer. The clarity of the camera is very good.
RIM is moving in the right direction of mixing glamour + features + professionalism. Hope to see a even better prodcut end of this year.
If anyone knows any free sites, where i can download some diffrent themes for the BB torch pls let me know.
u guys. do not question about the battery life of any phone. it really made to be charge. if the battery can stay forever, then no charger will be given right?
Varun, 08 Feb 2011Hi Guys, Im a 1st time blacberry user. Confused which one to buy, 9550 storm 2 or 9800 Torc... moreGo with the Torch, the Storm's screen sucks, the touch and click interface is whack and the 9800 is very well built. The touch screen is also very accurate yet sensitive. I jumped from the 3G to 9800, no regrets.
Varun, 08 Feb 2011Hi Guys,
Im a 1st time blacberry user. Confused which one to buy, 9550 storm 2 or 9800 Torc... moreHi
I've had the Storm 2 and I currently use iPhone 4. I'm also considering moving back to the BB Torch. The Storm 2 has a surpress screen so it clicks as you type, the touch screen sensitivity isn't bad but wouldn't say better then iPhone. I've been playing with my mate BB Torch these past few days to make my mind up & the touch screen on the Torch is as good as the iPhones and is better then Storm 2 touch screen. You don't have to slide the keyboard out if you don't want to use it :-)
The Toych is also a capasitive touch screen like the iPhones.
Hope this helps.
Im a 1st time blacberry user. Confused which one to buy, 9550 storm 2 or 9800 Torch??( Somehow not convinced for sliding type in 9800).
I am using an iPhone 3G now. How is the touch screen perfomance when compared to iphones???
Need a quick suggestion.
Am so confused, the display of my Htc TD2 got broken today and am i want a powerful phone, i dont know which phone to chose from the samsung galaxy S, Htc inspire, BB touch 9800, BB bold 9780 and Xperia Arc.
can somebody help make a choice.
I was using Iphone 3G. But since I have switched over to BB 9800 my experiance has been awesome. Its a powerful phone with a good battery backup. People who have used iphone will like it.
One of the best phones i've used. I had option of either IPHONE 4 or BB 9800 and i opted for 9800. Tried using both of them at the store and realised that 9800 is far more better than any of its competitor inthe market. I sold my HTC legend and bought this one. And i must say that BB is the best company out there in cellular market. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS HANDSET.
battery life is awful, but i'd happily charge it every night as it's that good.
What is the battery life like on the BB Torch?
i have this phone its cool nd i love it its like my mini laptop but its alittle fat but still its da best
