hello, i'm a torch 9810 user from the philippines, the OS 7.1 isn't available here yet, but i want to update, anyway, i am using a phone from at&t that's been unlocked. So my question is, is it possible for me to update my phone by downloading the update from blackberry's site for at&t (in short, the one from this link: https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/browseSoftware.do)? if yes, what will be the problems that i might face, if any? (ex: will my phone be locked to an&t again?) - sorry i' kinda new with this thing and i don't know how things work. hehehe.. thanks. :)

I went from a Bold 9000 to the 9810.
Pluses - Big touch-screen, decent on-screen keyboard, great pictures/video once I figured out how to zoom. Great media playback both audio and video. Slightly better cell coverage as well. The keyboard feels solid sliding out, not like the one on my daughter's Captivate Glide. Cell audio is very good, both parties can hear well - IF you slide the cover back when you have a protector kit on the phone! Otherwise the protector kit muffles the microphone. Use Bluetooth where possible to address this.
Minus - Certain business apps like Linkedin are not available for this model. Battery life is poor if you don't watch your third-party apps. I have solitare game that checked the Internet for ads, and the ad portion never shuts down then the game is shut down. I had to disable the game's Internet access.
Keyboard is smaller than the Bold as well - Typing is slightly more difficult as a result. It's heavier than the Bold, though that is to be expected. Certain camera options (sepia tone, etc) not available on this model. The Bold has A/B/G Wi-Fi - this has B/G only. Certain IT Network Infrastructure tools are not available on this model either.
Overall: More capability than the 9000 it replaced, with a few business/tool related issues though the battery life is nearly identical. If the new 'Bold' replacement has that high def screen (720x720) and full business app suite, I'll switch back to a Bold due to the 'A' radio Wi-Fi and business App support. If this was just for home use - I'd never switch back!
So far I have replaced the phone 3 times paying $20 to t-mobile every time, and still have the same problems, this is a really bad phone, I don't recommend it. I believe that bb users (I was a bb user for 2 years) for some reason think that restarting the phone 2 times per day is normal :( . Please don't buy this phone.
