Count of fire incidents involving safe Galaxy Note7 grows - carriers suspend sales, Samsung temporarily halts production

Samsung Android

In a major development, South Korean media is reporting that Samsung has temporarily halted production of its Galaxy Note7 smartphone.

"The halt is in cooperation with consumer safety regulators from South Korea, the United States and China," said an official at a supplier for Samsung. "This measure includes a Samsung plant in Vietnam that is responsible for global shipments (of the Galaxy Note 7)," they said.

The tech giant's decision to suspend the phablet's production seemingly came after more reports of replacement Note7 units catching fire surfaced this past weekend. The total count of such incidents - at-least in the US - has reached four.

Meanwhile, all the Big Four carriers in the US (as well as Australian carrier Telstra) have also suspended sales of handset.

Out of an abundance of caution for our customers, @TMobile is halting sales & exchanges of the new Note7. Details: https://t.co/ct4WCbXC5z

Umm why would they discontinue the phone that started the whole phablet revolution? You really must despise Samsung to hope for something as ridiculous as that to happen.

Looks like we won't be seeing the Note name anymore. Edge could take the throne though.
