It was a long time coming, but DxOMark has finally started testing the selfie cameras on phones.
The testing is done by analyzing more than 1,500 photos and more than 2 hours of video, taken with each device and there are already 10 phones tested.
The top spot is shared by the Google Pixel 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Note9, which are head and shoulders above the third-placed Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. Apple's current flagship iPhone XS Max is further behind in fourth. Interestingly the Galaxy S9+ has a much lower score than the Galaxy Note9 despite the identical hardware. Our best guess is the Galaxy S9+ was tested before the camera update arrived.
According to DxOMark, the Google Pixel 3 offers the best selfie photos, accentuated by the best detail and texture (even at the expense of some noise). The Galaxy Note9 offers a cleaner look with less noise (and the resulting less detail) but is the best video selfie taker with good color rendering, stabilization and excellent face exposure in all conditions.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 was commended for its innovative selfie portraits.
I'm sorry but you've surely seen many, I mean MANY people who're disagreeing with the results from DxO because how their test results simply don't indicate devices' real life performance. And now this "selfie rating" is a complete bogus, hands down. ...
Tie with Pixel 3? WTF. Note 9 front camera is trash. It has aggressive filters eventhough filters are off.
