Mid-last month, Honor India stated that the Honor 8 would not be getting Android Oreo/ EMUI 8.0 due to software and hardware limitations. Social media reps are sometimes misinformed, and that proved to be true when this piece of news was immediately contradicted not two weeks later when Honor confirmed that 9 of its phones would be updated to Oreo – Honor 8 included.
Tout d'abord, les mises à jour pour le passage à EMUI 8 ! 😊— Honor France (@Honor_FR) February 6, 2018

The same tweet also set a timeline for two other phones: the Honor 7X and the Honor 8 – both of which will be getting Oreo/ EMUI 8.0 sometime in Q2 of this year.
The new update will bring improved stability and battery life while also refining the overall look and feel of EMUI. There are new AI features that are derivative of the Kirin 970 and its dedicated Neural Processing Unit like automatic photo scene detection, instant translation, and automatic UI optimization.
It’s still not clear if the Honor 8 will actually get Oreo (as per the quote from this post) or if it will only get features ported from EMUI 8.0 and stay on Nougat due to supposed hardware and software limitations. We’ve reached out to Honor for clarification and will update this post accordingly.
