Eten Glofiish Gigabyte GSmart Touch UI Dual SIM Windows Mobile Computex 2008

The Computex 2008 trade show is at its highest in terms of Windows Mobile handset. Eten and Gigabyte presented their new lineups which include some feature-packed and, shall we say unique, handsets. Eten presented the first dual SIM Windows Mobile PocketPC, while Gigabyte proudly announced the first Windows Mobile handset with a 5 megapixel camera. Both manufacturers have something to show in software aspect too.

Eten Glofiish

Eten presented three new models at the Computex 2008 trade show. The Glofiish X900 is an upgrade of the already available X800, the Glofiish DX900 brings dual SIM functionality for the first time to the Windows Mobile platform, and finally the Glofiish X610 is a minor upgrade to the affordable yet powerful X600.

The Glofiish DX900 is the first Windows Mobile Pro handset to feature dual SIM functionality and even managed to win the Computex 2008 Best Choice Award. The DX900 runs on the Windows Mobile Pro 6.1 OS and has a 533Mhz Samsung CPU. A VGA display and 128MB of RAM and 256MB of ROM add to the feature list. Besides that it also sports Wi-Fi, built-in GPS receiver, Bluetooth, microSD card slot and a 3 megapixel auto focus camera. Quad-band GSM/EDGE support and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA support make it a truly world-wide communicator.

Eten Glofiish DX900

The Glofiish X900 boast absolutely the same specs as the DX900 - even dimensions and weight, however it doesn't feature dual SIM capabilities. In fact both the devices share specs with another Eten device, which was announced back in February at the MWC 2008 - it's the Eten V900 digital TV phone.

Eten Glofiish X900

The Eten V900 packs support for the DVB-H, DVB-T, TDMB and DAB wireless TV reception protocols meaning you can watch TV on the go wherever you go. The Glofiish V900 should be available in August 2008.

And finally, the Glofiish X610 was presented by Eten as the successor of the already available Glofiish X600. It's not much of an upgrade really as the only difference is the new looks and the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. All other specs remain unchanged - a QVGA display, a 400Mhz Samsung CPU, quad-band GSM/EDGE support (no 3G or HSDPA), 64MB of RAM and 128MB of ROM, built-in GPS receiver, Wi-Fi and a 2 megapixel camera. The Eten X610 should be available in July 2008.

Eten also presented their new touch-optimized interface - Windows Mobile can hardly be called finger-friendly, so all device manufacturers are trying to amend the problem in any way possible. The software solution used by Eten is actually Spb Mobile Shell 2.0. It offers nice eye candy and has finger swipes functionality with 3D graphics resembling the HTC Touch Cube.

Gigabyte GSmart

Gigabyte also presented a new batch of Windows Mobile Pro devices at the Computex 2008. The new devices include the GSmart MS802 and MS820. The company also showcased the existing devices GSmart MS800 and GSmart MS808, which were announced in February at the MWC 2008.

The GSmart MS802 is the successor of the existing GSmart MS800 and updates the feature set with a 3 megapixel camera (as opposed to the 2 megapixel one in MS800). The MS802 still offers a 2.8-inch QVGA display, fast Intel 520MHz CPU, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and a SiRF Star III GPS receiver.

Gigabyte GSmart MS802

The other new handset, the Gigabyte GSmart MS820 is the first Windows Mobile device with a built-in 5 megapixel autofocus camera. But besides that, the GSmart MS820 is a capable device in all respects as it also flaunts a VGA display, a fast Intel 520MHz CPU, 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and GPS, Bluetooth plus a microSD card slot. The MS820 also manages to impress with the fact that it has packed that feature load within a waistline of only 14.1 mm.

Thanks to its unique accelerometer feature - the G-Sensor - which is utilized as a navigation solution in several applications and games, the MS820 managed to snatch 2008 Taiwan Excellence Silver Award at the Computex 2008.

Unfortunately, we don't have any pricing or availability info on these new Gigabyte handsets.

Gigabyte also officially launched their proprietary finger-optimized Windows Mobile interface called Smart Touch. The Chinese version of the Smart Touch UI has already leaked online in April however the manufacturer warns that it's incomplete and probably unstable so European users should make use of the official version of the interface.
