Garmin launches MARQ Commander smartwatch with a hardware clear data button

Garmin Wearables

Garmin has its own niche in smartwatch market, used by people that actually care about the data, collected by the wearable - distance, altitude, pace, etc. As such, the company is investing a lot of effort in its premium products like the MARQ lineup, with its latest model called MARQ Commander.

The most interesting feature of the new smartwatch is an actual button that wipes out all personal data. Called Stealth Mode, the feature immediately turns of GPS position sharing, wireless connectivity, communication, and deletes all data gathered in the memory.

Although this feature is clearly created for army personnel working and residing in sensitive areas, you can also use it if you are very conscious about your data footprint and the information being stored and shared away from you. Garmin did not say that the MARQ Commander is specifically made for military applications, but graciously mentioned the military used its products for many years to navigate and train.

Appearance-wise, the Garmin MARQ Commander is all-black wearable with a 46-mm watch face and DLC-coated titanium bezel, while the display is sapphire crystal-protected. There are 24-hour markers for when you’re using the watch to tell the time. If you are considering buying the Commander version, you better have $1,950 laying around, because that’s the base price of a Garmin MARQ smartwatch.

I think it’s marketed towards outdoorsy people of the hunting and survival painballing type. Those who care about data security are already using Apple Watch but imaginary black ops guys (dress like a survivalist but never go far from mothers house) ...
