Google Mobile software Smart wearables

The Google Fit app is being revamped to be more usable for people who are into tracking all possible fitness metrics. This has been a long time coming, as the app was in dire need of becoming more useful.

Now there are new data points for you straight on the home screen, which acts as a hub for all your connected apps and devices. A summary of all your metrics and how you're doing compared to your goals is available at a glance. New sections on the main page include daily sleep info, recent workouts, and weight and blood pressure trends over time.

The sleep tracking is more comprehensive for devices such as the Fossil Gen 5E smartwatch, Oura Ring, or Withings sleep tracking mat, as well as for apps like Sleep As Android or Sleep Cycle. You can track your nightly activity, view sleep stages, and set a goal for bedtime. This feature will be expanded to more devices and apps in the future.

The Google Fit app also lets you view a summary of your walk or run on a map, along with pace and mile markers. And you can share stats, routes, or photos from your Google Fit journal entries to social media or via messaging apps.

Over on Wear OS smartwatches, the Google Fit Workouts tile now has shortcuts to take you to your most recent workouts, and while you're working out you can see all your metrics in one view on your screen. You can set goals and receive pace alerts too.

The weather experience has received an upgrade on watches, with a "bolder design that's easier on the eyes and provides you with more relevant forecast details, including precipitation and weather alerts", Google says.

Finally, the new Breathe tile helps you decompress with guided breathing sessions. After you've done one, you can see a summary of your heart rate variability, and you also get a recap of your breathing sessions for the entire week.

All of these things will be rolling out over the next few days.

It erased almost all functionality. Have you actually worked out with this? It doesn't even track reps or workouts now.
