GoPro Max 360 gets first refresh after 5 years, it costs less but is still limited to 5.6K video

Towards the end of 2019, GoPro unveiled the Max, its second attempt at a spherical camera. And since then, it looked like the company had bailed on this market since there was no follow-up. Today, the company quietly launched the GoPro Max 360.

This isn’t a new design – it is still capped at 5.6K resolution – but it improves the mounting options and the battery, plus its MSRP is $150 lower than that of the original Max. And since it’s 2025, there are a number of AI features.

First things first, the refreshed model is compatible with all standard ¼-20 tripod mounts. The mounting point is under the folding fingers that are standard on GoPros.

The camera now uses Enduro batteries with 1,600mAh capacity. The battery can be used in extreme cold conditions, down to -10°C/14°F.

The Quick App has a number of improvements to make editing 360 videos on the go easier. There is a new AI-based object tracking system. You can “move” the camera and adjust the digital lens setting using keyframes or you can use automatic transitions. New CameraFx and filter options are available as well.

If you’re editing on the desktop, you can use the new Reframe plugin in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. GoPro Premium and Premium+ subscribers get unlimited cloud storage and can edit 360 videos stored in the cloud.

The GoPro Max 360 has an Enduro battery, a 1/4-20 mount and an updated editing experience

The updated GoPro Max 360 is available now for $350/£350/€400.

Disappointingly, the camera’s video resolution remains the same as it was five years ago, 5.6K. Rival Insta360 launched the Insta360 X4 last year, which was its first 8K camera, though it is more expensive at $500/€560.
