Here's what will make the first foldable iPhone stand out

Apple iOS Rumors

Apple's first foldable iPhone is apparently slated to be introduced during its big fall 2026 launch event, presumably taking place in September of next year. The foldable iPhone will be presented by Apple as the highest-end iPhone, and not as part of a parallel series with "a niche alternative design", which it reportedly sees as the approach taken by Google and Samsung.

To differentiate it from its competitors, Apple will be betting on two key factors. First, its folding screen's crease will be almost invisible. This sounds funny if you've ever used a Chinese foldable, but let's assume Apple will somehow make the crease even more invisible - and then undoubtedly present this Samsung Display-made product as the fruit of its own innovation, as it's wont to do.

Second, the foldable iPhone's hinge will be "much higher-quality" than its competitors', which isn't explained any further in Mark Gurman's latest report in Bloomberg on the matter, but probably refers to the already rumored use of liquid metal.

Finally, let's note that "some people involved in the project" believe there's a "slight chance" that development could fall behind "due to its complexity" and so the first foldable iPhone might slip into 2027. That gives Gurman and the likes even more time to spread many more rumors about this mythical device, so we'll let you know when another one drops.
