Honor presents new AI image editing features at Google Cloud Next

In March, Honor unveiled its Alpha Plan – a $10 billion investment in AI features over 5 years with the goal of becoming a leading AI device ecosystem company globally. Honor attended Google’s Cloud Next 2025 event in Las Vegas to support a key partner in the Alpha Plan and to promote some of the new features that they have created.

AI Outpainting is a big one – it allows users to reframe a photo by zooming out and rotating it as needed. Normally, this will leave blank areas that go beyond what you captured in the shot. But with Honor’s AiMAGE suite, those blanks will be filled in using Google’s Imagen model.

This means that users can just snap a photo and not worry too much about framing – be in the moment as it happens, then figure out the best framing later (and you can change your mind and try again as many times as needed too).

AI Outpainting can create an image double the size of the original, which gives you a lot of freedom when cropping out a better-framed shot. “The optimized generative fill ensures that the expanded images are seamlessly integrated, even in complex scenes like buildings and landscapes,” said Eric Fang, Senior Director of Product Planning at Honor.

The AI Eraser is similar and leverages Imagen’s inpainting capabilities. Pick an unwanted object in a scene and a few taps later, it will be gone – its place filled in with contextually appropriate content.

Users already have access to these features with phones like the Honor 400 Lite, which launched in Europe last week. It supports AI Outpainting, AI Eraser and AI Upscale. “Democratizing AI is at the core of our mission,” said Eric Fang.

Honor will continue collaborating with Google Cloud on developing new AI-powered features – these are only the first steps. The company is working on adding a video generation feature using Google’s Veo model, for example.

Next month, new Honor devices will arrive that will boost productivity with features based on Google Gemini. Honor will continue to co-develop AI features with Google, including not just cloud-powered but on-device functions as well.
