Sun, 15 Oct 2011Thank you for your detailed reply. I appreciate it!Your most welcome.
I RECOMMEND THE DESIRE TO EVERYONE IT WAS AN £440 SIM FREE PHONE!
it won every phone of the year last year (no phone in history has done that before) and won the MOBILE INDUSTRY AWARDS 2011 PHONE OF THE YEAR, it beat the iphone 4 every time putting them into second place lol.
Don't worry we will get a decent gingerbread over the air. We are bashing them into it!
Best wishes with your new Desire.
Sun, 13 Oct 2011Since I only need a good phone, not the best in the market, Desire might be an option for me..... moreI find the camera works great and has a lot of pro features you would only find on a camera.
The video in the upgraded A8181 is HD making it twice as good as DVD.
The music player is great but relies on the quality of the actual recording which means some music is NOT very loud BUT THAT'S NOT THE PHONES FAULT that's the fault of the moron who recorded it! Rock, Opera and other types of loud music sound great but softer music can be quiet and then headphones or external speakers solves that problem.
Games that are 3D or HD are great and work wonderfully.
Screen is 480 x 800 super LCD (OLD VERSION WAS AMOLED AND NOT SO GOOD)
Radio works great too and you can get a digital version if want and you can also watch TV with an app and actual movies a 2 hour film takes app. 200MB which downloads to the SD card and the movies can be found on the market from free to £8 depending on the films copyright status.
The phone basically has a lot of features.

IT'S THE BEST HTC HAS EVER MADE AND FROM THE NEW RUBBISH THEY ARE MAKING THEY WON'T MAKE AGAIN!
The problems are all related to what HTC gets upto and Google and that is the problem they are misfits.
I still would say go for it and you can buy it £140 cheaper now SIM free or even cheaper if you don't need freedom.
The phone is fast BUT the phone relies on networks it can't make a network go fast lol
So you now have the biggest problem of all NETWORKS AND THEIR AREA OF COVERAGE AND THEIR SPEED.
NOT one network offers more than 3mbps so although the phone can run at speeds of 7.2mbps so let's hope they greedy networks will speed things up.
The other problem networks never mention is the fact that they can only handle upto 150,000 devices at any one time and if your 150,001 you are put on a holding system or get rubbish like the person you are trying to call is unavailable.
SO ALL THIS RUBBISH IS NOT THE DESIRES FAULT IT'S NETWORKS HTC AND GOOGLE ETC.,
The Gingerbread update that HTC released is NOT a stable version and you install at your own risks HTC states.
The NEW Android Magazine advice is DON'T USE HTC version its not worth the risks.
HTC DON'T MAKE ANY MONEY OUT OF GIVEN US A DECENT UPDATE IN FACT IT WOULD COST THEM MONEY SO THEY GIVE US RUBBISH!
My advice is YES to Desire and No to HTC gingerbread unless your an expert on such matters.
I hope this helps but feel free to ask anything.
THE DESIRE A8181 IS STILL THE BEST PHONE ON THE MARKET.

This an... morei updated mine to gingerbread 2.3.3. .. and its working flawlessly and amazingly fine.. gave me a lot of internal memory 108mb. thats a lot for a desire owner. i think its a great move by htc. cheers htc!
wkmiv, 11 Oct 20111. internal storage is not enough for me...any suggestion??
2. software 2.2 can be update to ... moreDon't you get it HTC claim on the box that there is 512MB but that is a lie there is 150.75MB! When I questioned them about this first they lied and when I would not accept that they said "WE APOLOGISE BUT MOST OF THE INTERNAL MEMORY IS USED BY INSTALLED APPS" when I questioned this they stated "IT'S COMMON INDUSTRY PRACTICE" when I questioned this stating I don't work in their industry, I got this lie from them "WE STATE THIS ON ADVERTS FOR THE DESIRE" when I questioned this I got this from HTC "WE CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH ADVERTS OR WHERE YOU CAN FIND THEM" HTC are dishonest.
HTC are cheating us!
THEY SHOULD BE:
HTC QUIETLY DISHONEST

seamonkey UK, 11 Oct 2011I work in a phone shop and have the HTC Desire, PLEASE DO NOT UPDATE TO GINGER BREAD. This an... moreI did say don't install and ask HTC are you joking? They may talk to you because you work in a phone shop BUT they lie and are the biggest crooks going.
They have become greedy their new Radar retails at £500 and looks and feels like a phone that would cost £200 it will be a failure! The same for the Titan retails £530 looks and feels like a £300 phone at most.
HTC deserve to fail because:
1. They have become greedy.
2. They have very poor customer service.
3. Their handsets are becoming poor quality.
4. They are pricing cheap handsets at very high price points.
5. They are cheating us out of a decent 2.3.6 just to save face.
6. They are lying about internal ROM etc.,
If you want a decent upgrade then email HTC or say on their Facebook only numbers will get us a decent gingerbread over the air.
1. internal storage is not enough for me...any suggestion??
2. software 2.2 can be update to 2.3 or not??
I work in a phone shop and have the HTC Desire, PLEASE DO NOT UPDATE TO GINGER BREAD. This android version will eat up all your remaining internal memory. If you don't believe me ask HTC!
Abadi, 09 Oct 2011Hello,
i went to the HTC developers page and registered but i couldn't find anything relate... moreGo down the left column and you will see the Desire name all the related stuff is in there and one of them is gingerbread which is the 2.3 upgrade.
Where you on a PC? You have to download to your PC first and then to your phone HTC are being a pain not giving us over the air just to save face.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG AND I HAVE NOT UPDATED TO HTC'S RELEASE BECAUSE IT'S A POOR VERSION 2.3.3 I RECOMMEND WAITING UNTIL THEY RELEASE 2.3.6
It is your choice to wait or not to wait.
