Bought the device last evening in Saudi Arabia, white Desire 816 dual sim for SR1400 ($373) in a local shop. Colors available were grey and white only.
So far the device is fantastic. Feels premium and while it is large it just fits my hands (think of a thinner and lighter Note 2). Screen is great, stereo speakers make media a joy and the Snapdragon 400 provides enough juice to use the device nice and smooth without any hiccups to be seen.
Sadly with Kitkat programs cannot be transferred to SD card and user available is around 5GB, so larger games may prove to be an issue but it is plenty for regular apps and smaller games. The camera is great so far, it asked me if i wanted default storage to be SD card thankfully.
Battery life i cannot judge as it is too soon and the phone needs to go through several charge/discharge cycles but when i bought the phone it was at 40% battery and several hours later and installing all my apps and playing with it was down to about 24% or so, not bad at all.
All in all, i see it deserving the price premium over the Grand 2 easily: higher clocked CPU (1.6 vs 1.2), higher res camera (13 vs 8), stereo speakers, faster network speed (DC-HSPA vs HSPA+), larger screen with gorilla glass and of course i greatly prefer HTC's sense and design. Great phone really and see this as a fantastic dual sim phone.
