Ok....I had the phone for a few days. The design is perfect, even though the chin sticks out and its hard to push it into a carrying case. The hardware (Processor and the onboard RAM) isn't up to date but it manages to do every task smoothly. The camera is nothing to brag. Touchscreen is very sensitive capacitive screen , but its difficult to type on the onscreen keyboard. Its a multi-gesture screen and you can have cool effects on picture zooming and panning just like an Iphone. Audio quality is nice , both on the earpiece and the loud speaker. The volume rocker is not in the right place and its hard to distinguish, so u tend to press either the up or down key without actually noticing. The other keys are ok, but would have been better if they were a bit larger. Battery is great, lasted almost two days for me (Diamond 2 managed 1 day at the best).
But somebody tell me ,why pay a hefty price for a good phone with a Operating system not so good and complete?
The Phone came out of the box with cupcake android V1.5, which was very colorful. I upgraded to 2.1 Vanillian, but I lost most of the colors and nice effects (maybe I dont have a good taste). Even then the problem remains---->Its not capable of pairing with anything but a headset, you need to install other software to be able to send or receive files. Also I couldn't find a capable file manager. ASTRA is just ok.
Android is a very promising Operating System, but we have to wait for more developments, so paying a large sum for this device at the moment doesnt seem to be very logical.
I hope this is helpful.

I wanted to wait for the Legend but I am afraid it shares the same amoled screen as the Nexus1 which is poor under sunlight
Hi guys, just a bit of advice please..Ive got an Iphone 3G (unlocked) I am due an upgrade but my network doesn't "do" the Iphone they only do Android phones, so I was thinking of just getting the most expensive phone possible selling it and buy an Iphone 3GS however, I like the look of the HTC Hero but, I want apps like Skysports and Ebay on the Iphone. Ive got no experience of the andriod market apps, do they have these ones or anything similar? thanks for your help.
i need help transfering my contacts from a nokia E71 to HTC hero. any tips please
Thanks Terminator for your coment about HTC Hero. Will wait for 2.1 upgrade this month to get bluetooth file. How do you rate Hero? HTC Legend is out in April(Hero upgrade). Something else to consider although love the look of Hero in white. Ady
If you want to add a custom ROM like Modaco 3.1 or Nexus One OS you should ROOT your Hero first!
You can have multitouch and Bluetooth file transfer if you use a custom ROM or wait for the official 2.1 upgrade that would be available very soon (during this month)
For Custom ROMs and tutorials you should see the XDA forum, they have a dedicated section for the Hero

I bought my new HTC Hero in Bangalore cost around 24000/- INR including VAT. Looks really wonderfull. But camera doesnt seems to be soo perfect. Sound quality is average. User friendly UI. Contact manager is really nice. Little bulky but build is really nice and attractive.
Does it have pinch zoominig? I heard that it is available via update, is that right?
