shubham yadav, 11 May 2014I'm using an s4 and I can successfully move apps to sd card from the application manager. I do... moreYou seem well up on memory cards so you may be able to help with the following..Thanks..

When Nokia brought out the N97 the memory was 32gb but class 2..They put class 2 in the device for ruggedness as it had to a least last for the 2 years a contract ran for..They reckon folk would delete this memory many times taking photos/videos putting them on comp then deleting for the next lot of data..

So we come forward to now and Apple and other manufacturers are charging the earth for internal memory..Is this because they are using a class 4,6,10 internal memory and it costs more? If so they must have increased the ruggedness (ie constant read/write/delete) of memory over past few years...

If Google are insisting on the no-sd card rules then manufacturers are going to have to increase internal storage..There is no other way but if they insist on charging loads of money phones will be very expensive..Why did my 64GB card from Amazon cost 38GBP yet manufacturers charge 5x that for internal storage? Are they using some other robust memory?

If this is Googles way forward with fixed memory then we can expect a huge rise in smartphone costs..:(

Thanks again.

You can move apps to sd card on m8. Go to that app in application manager and click the 'move to sd card' option that is there. Only some apps support this feature. If the dev. Wants, he can support this feature. Try this and tell me.

        Hope this helped.

        Have a nice day

Astro file manager will not move, copy or paste anything from phone memory to SD card on phone with kitkat. Astro and some other file manager work partially on some Samsung eg note 3 which es file Explorer work but none has worked with any htc now. Don't confuse people here. YOU CAN'T MOVE ANYTHING FROM PHONE MEMORY TO EXTERNAL SD CARD ON KITKAT M8 WITH 3RD PARTY APPS

Anonymous, 11 May 2014For your info. Kitkat don't support writing to external SD card by downloaded 3rd party apps. ... morePLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS & READ MY COMMENTS CAREFULLY .

I said you can't only move apps into the external SD card. But you can copy & paste any file from phone memory to SD card. If you install the 'AStro File Manager" you can browse any type of file or folder in the phone memory as well as the SD card. Similarly, Astro File Manage allows you to do all the task such as copy-paste, rename, delete & etc.

Although, none of the third party file manager allows you to move apps into the SD card. If you need to move apps in the SD card, the only method is, going to the "Application Manager" in the phone settings, then move apps into the SD card. But the KitKat version of Android doesn't allows you to do that.

The HTC M8 is not the only phone which comes without a stock file manager, but also Sony and LG phones. If Kitkat doesn't supports third party file managers, there are so many Android users will get trouble. I don't think Google is not fool enough to do such a thing.

Any android phone which comes without a SD card, its internal memory splits into two parts called "Phone Memory & "Internal Memory." That's the thing I mentioned regarding the HTC M7. Of course I know that M7 doesn't have a SD card slot. It was my previous phone.

                * IF YOU USE ASTRO FILE MANAGER YOU CAN MOVE ANY FILE FROM PHONE MEMORY TO SD CARD.

Kitkat don't support writing to external SD card by downloaded 3rd party apps. You can not copy, paste anything from phone memory to external sd except with inbuilt file manager. The case for htc is the worst since htc don't provide inbuilt file manager. M7 don't have SD card so it is not included in this problem. Forgot about astro file manager, solid Explorer etc there are chances that they work for Samsung. But for htc, none is working for now. If you buy htc forget about external sd and make sure that the one you buy has enough inbuilt memory.

we can move apps to sd card in M8
at least according to the folks at HTC support
here is a mail from them

Thank you for contacting HTC support.
As per your email, we understand that, you want to know
whether HTC One M8 have the option of moving apps to
                      SD card.
We will definitely help you with this information.
In regards to your query, we like to inform you that HTC
One M8 does have the option of moving apps to sd card
but it depend upon the application which needs to be
moved. However, while moving the apps to SD card if the
option is grayed out, this means that the application
does not have the capability to be installed on the micro
SD card. And for that purpose need to contact the
                      developer for support details.

I don't know why Samsung didn't give this option on note 3 but probably because note 3's lowest storage is 32 gb and hence we don't need it that much.

Even s5 has this feature to move apps to sd card. I saw it and I can confirm it.

Thanks. It's ok now as astro file manager is working fine for basic stuff. Is any other file manager also working or is it only astro??

And 64 GB internal storage is insanely expensive. Even a 64 GB UHS I card is dirt cheap in front of 64 gb internal storage.

I don't know how I can prove it to you but I can move apps to sd freely.

The Astro File Manager is perfectly working on my M8.

I think there is no any file manager to move apps into the SD card. You can only do it by going to the "Application Manager" in the phone settings; then, move apps into the SD card. Nevertheless, KitKat version of the Android not allows you to do that.

This is not merely the problem of HTC M8. One of my friend who using a Note 3 also facing the similar problem after updating Jelly Bean to KitKat.
