Can you tell me any reason. The screen is the same. It's slightly bigger but that is compromised by on screen buttons. I don't think there is any difference between them except the SOC and OIS. The m8 just has one single advantage of having snapdragon 801.
And m7 doesn't have the issue. Can you tell me one thing. Just look at the 2 lenses of m8. The primary and the depth one. Can you tell that the depth one picks a lot less dirt than the primary and the glass is of higher quality.
And IT IS THE MANUFACTURERS fault if it sticks an untreated fragile glass for the camera in such a premium phone. And a good glass for the useless depth sensor.
Just this is my question. Can you confirm it.
Have a nice day

Throughout these four years I have bought at least one single phone from many reputed brands such as Apple, Samsung, Sony and HTC.
I bought the M8 because it's overall satisfy my preferences. However, there are some certain things that I don't like in the M8. Although, nothing to do I have to buy it. There are some certain things that I love in S5; although, it's not satisfy my overall preferences.
Anyway, iPhone 6 has to release in September. If it meets my preferences better than my M8, I'll sell the M8 and buy a iPhone 6.
I'm not a fan boy and I'm purchasing a phone which can overall satisfy my preferences. I don't concern on a single aspect but overall. It's utterly doesn't important to me the brand name of the phone.

I haven't faced any single of problem with them. I purchased the M8 two weeks ago, so far I cleaned the lens just one time that because of my finger prints on the cam lens. It got way just a single wipe with the microfiber cloth. Don't clean the lens anything else other than microfiber cloths. Similarly, it's not good to clean your cam lens more often. Just clean the lens it's really necessary.
Sometimes people put all the blame on the manufacture just because of their heedlessness. So, we have nothing to do with them. It's our responsibility to take proper care of our phone that we spent huge amount to buy them. It's simply not the phone manufacturer's responsibility.

As Subham asked, how often do you need to clean the lens? Is that every time before taking a shot? Everyone has a pile of microfibre cloths in their home. So cleaning periodically won't be an issue, but cleaning it often is, and more than an issue it's unacceptable from a 'premium' set like this.
It's right, I have used the S4 for eight months, and it never needed any wiping stuffs, I did it some times, just because I liked to clean it, not because I had to.
I have asked about the same on M8's Indian owners topic, and only got one response so far, and that is negative, I mean positive for the problem, which is NOT good. Will wait till other users leave their input in this matter, hope I won't have to face any fanboys.
The number of Megapixels does not equate to quality.
They're only beneficial if you are to print those shots in a huge tarpaulin, but you wouldn't use a cellphone for that would you?
Anyway, to understand it the way photographers and Optical Physicists do, read this:

For plain performance comparison (Top pictures from HTC One M7), see this:

I hope these could shed some light on some of you.

One more question. How often do you need to clean the lens. As I haven't cleaned lens on my s4 for almost an year and it is clean even now.
Have a nice day
AnonD-89109, 07 May 2014Guys this seems like a serious issue! Can any user confirm this here? Seems like a deal breake... moreI'm cleaning the cam lens of the M8 with microfiber cloth. You can find them in any phone, computer or even camera stores. I haven't faced any problem yet. Just clean the lens putting two water drops on to the microfiber cloth and wipe it very smoothly. I think that guy doesn't know how to clean a lens. Last year when I was using the M7 it just fell down facing the cam lens. I was really scared, luckily it doesn't damage the lens.
If I talk about the camera quality it's overall fine to me and it's not that much bad as people say. I acknowledge that the camera of the last year M7 is not quite perfect because it's their first time introduced such a "Ultrapix" technology. However, HTC has improved the camera performances of the M8 by a significant margin. Anyway, HTC can't stand with their lower megapixel camera anymore because most people believe higher mp means better quality. I hope HTC will include at least 8 mp in their next flagship phone. I'm not a huge fan of phone cameras, I'm using the Lumix ZS35 for advanced photography. Sometimes the M8 low-light performances are better than my Lumix camera. Overall I can recommend the M8 has a good camera.
* If you crop or editing images I don't recommend the M8. Rather buy a Lumia phone.
You can find a answers for all your questions after seeing this review and don't forget to see the video review at the end.

Sometimes this link doesn't go directly to the M8 album then click the "gavinfabl100's photostream" and select the M8 which in the album. You can also look at the camera samples of the Galaxy S5 if you wish.

AnonD-89109, 07 May 2014Guys this seems like a serious issue! Can any user confirm this here? Seems like a deal breake... moreHey, thanks for the information. Will definitely look into it before purchasing the phone. The camera is the second most important thing for me after the screen. First, I was already sceptical about how I'll live with that 4 MP camera. On top of that, if this is true then it's a true deal breaker.
I haven't sold my phone and want a premium phone this time. I think I'll wait till the rumoured s5 prime or galaxy f shows up if this issue is true.
On a side note, you really got a great price for your old phone. I think you should've kept it till purchasing a new phone. Anyways, it's amazing to see that a simple cover solves so many issues.
About crazy mind. You're damn right. Last year I was sure if getting m7 till the last day but when I reached the store and used both of them, the amoled took me over. Plus I came to know that more than half units of m7 have purple hue problem including the piece there in the store.
Why htc messes this bad with the cameras every year. Also I don't have an SLR or mirrorless.
CAN ANYONE ON THIS FORUM CONFIRM THE SMUDGING OF CAMERA LENS OF M8?
Have a nice day

this is the reason i am leaving HTC, and i wont look back
Htc one m8 has got the best touch reponse time which is 46 ms xperia z2 and galaxy s5 dont even stand a chance against it. The stsndby time is also better on the. M8 please do a google search for the touch response of all the flagships of 2014 as it does matter.
AnonD-116479, 06 May 2014I think you have read so many reviews, but I didn't read any single review. I just purchased t... moreTrue.
Reviews are meant for some stuffs, like how is the picture quality of the camera sensor, how bright the display is, how loud are the speakers, and all those technical stuffs, but what it can't tell you is the personal attachment. What you feel, that can never be mentioned / stated in any review, and that is the BIGGEST thing while making a purchase.
shubham yadav, 06 May 2014Saurav, I was trying to compare s5 exynos with m8. There is no version of exynos m8. Just exyn... moreHmm, maybe I will give S5 a look then. But I can see I am getting the M8, even if it's just for the materials used, or the design they made, especially the backside, the elegance of it. People think iPhone has a great build quality and design, undoubtedly they have never seen or touched any hTC before! Hardware specs matter, but for me to very limited extent, on my S4 all I played was some Angry Birds and Flappy Bird. I think even Lumia 520 could handle them :p
About Z2, I totally agree with you on the design, I mean the bezels are so so huge! The phone indeed is big, and I don't like the use of glass at back side, I saw my friend's Z1 yesterday, which he has been using for past seven months, and after looking at that glass back cover, I was like WTF! It's like he has had sex with it everyday for past seven months :p Absolutely not my thing. But some things are good in Z2 as I said, the camera and an extra one gig of RAM. Also I am an admirer of Sony, but that shouldn't impact my buying decision as it'd be very biased.
About the vibration, lol, I am glad to know you found the reason, I found the solution just last week before selling my S4. Accidentally my handkerchief and S4 was in same pocket and someone called me and I could feel the vibration for the first time since I bought it, as you said, the phone is sleek, so when it vibrates it doesn't touch the skin, that's why I was not able to feel it. That handkerchief and phone combo worked very well actually, maybe thick phones are indeed better.
Let's see what I do. It's M8 so far, but maybe my crazy mind will change the decision at last moment.
PS : Good to know you are from IIT, I am, or rather was, from IIPM, Kolkata.
AnonD-116479, 06 May 2014I think you have read so many reviews, but I didn't read any single review. I just purchased t... moreYes the dot view case is nice. But it won't be very useful as the screen is LCD and hence the unused pixels won't turn off and it will consume much more battery.
I also forgot some features if s5. One is the ultra power saving mode in which display switches to grayscale and being amoled it saves a lot of battery. Also I forgot to mention the battery is removable and lasts slightly longer.
There is a s view case for all Samsung flagships and that works better as the whole screen except the hole is turned off as the screen is amoled and individual pixels can be turned off. This saves a lot of battery. Actually I'm using it for an year and is great. You can handle calls and alarms without opening the cover. A feature which isn't available with the dot view cover.
I wish there was a phone with s5's display and camera and htc's body and speakers. The ui as functional as touchwiz and as fast as sense.
Both are great devices. I really have a hard time deciding.
Anyways, have a nice day. I'm still confused
AnonD-116479, 06 May 2014I think you have read so many reviews, but I didn't read any single review. I just purchased t... moreCompletely agree with you. But have you read gsmarena's comparison between s5 and one m8. It's really practical. Yes I've seen a many reviews but I believe in only 1 site and they are gsmarena. Their reviews are honest and they have factual and real results to back up their claim as that's the only thing that can't be fooled. If a phone has great contrast and sunlight legibility that's a good display.
All the points I declared are true and I have proofs to back them up. Please elaborate any of mine points you feel wrong. I am ready to discuss. And only reviews can help in some specific comparisons like how can you compare sunlight legibility, battery life or camera quality in a showroom.
Have a nice day.

AnonD-89109, 06 May 2014Hey Subham, no I have not tried the M8. I went to my local store to try it, but it wasn't avai... moreSaurav, I was trying to compare s5 exynos with m8. There is no version of exynos m8. Just exynos s5. I will not buy the z2 at any cost. First, the bezels are too big and the phone too huge. It also isn't comfortable in hand. Plus I am tired if fixing the overheating. It took me 1 month to overcome the heating if 4.4.2 and now I have come up a way to stop this problem. I also solved your vibration problem.
Actually it's my vacation time and I am truly free all day. So I decided to ditch my s view cover after 1 year. And suddenly my vibration intensity dropped and heating took an upsurge. I went to find the reason and then I noticed that the solution is in the design. The s4 without any cover us too slim to stop heat and vibrate. The s view cover added a layer of air between the back cover and internals which almost eliminated heat reaching your hand as well as provided a resonating column that amplified vibration. Also a bigger and heavier device will have better vibration. Anyways it doesn't matter to you now.
Now the z2 us simply huge, I don't like glass as it's difficult to hold and slippery and gets smudgy. It overheats much more than s4. So its out of question. Plus the screen is even worse compared to m8.
My phone frequently falls. So if I get m8, I'll quickly put a cover on it and it makes the beautiful design useless. Plus I live in IIT BOMBAY and hence I have great wifi speeds ranging upto 500 mbps. So the wifi mimo will give me 2 times the speeds and the s5 has it. And I would love fingerprint scanner and Samsung ui.
Reasons for me considering s5 exynos:
Camera ( just no comparison)
Screen quality. It matters a lot to me.
Wifi mimo. 2 wifi recievers. 2x the speed
Fastest RAM on the planet: s5 has 933 MHz ddr3 ram vs the ddr2 ram in m8. The m8 is the only flagship with ddr2 ram. Even the s4 has ddr3 ram.
Full UHS-I read speeds: The exynos s5 is the only phone with exynos s4 that supports full class 10 ultra full read and write speeds. It reads and writes at upto 70 MB/s. A great feature if you use high quality sd cards.
USB 3.0 .
Waterproof and dustproof: not very useful but may survive an accident.
Fingerprint scanner: its cool.
Touchwiz: touchwiz on s5 is great. The s health is even better and now it looks good too.
M8:
The design. It makes me mad. Just beautiful. Don't purchase the grey version.
The speakers. Sometimes I need to hear songs with my friends and may come in handy.
I am an audiophile and have dedicated skullcandy earphones. The m8 are better even with earphones on.
The ui is fast and clean and the phone works very fast.
The GPU. It has adreno 330 which is 10 -15 % better than mali T628 in s5 exynos. I don't play games much but will prefer a better GPU.
That was all my viewpoint. I would suggest to have a look at s5 as it is really good and doesnt feel like the plastic you're stuck for 5 years. It has a different feel.
For the z2 I won't recommend it as generally sony phones work and perform less than the sum of their parts.
Have a nice day

Because we both own an i9500 ... moreI think you have read so many reviews, but I didn't read any single review. I just purchased the M8 just hand on experience. Hand on experience is more important than the reading thousands of reviews. I don't trust reviews at all. I felt some of your conclusions are really ridiculous, because I have tested both of them and I know how they are performing in the real-life scenario. I could have give you a detail review including all the hefty technical specifications, but they don't really important. As customers, at the end of the day we all concern just the real-life performances.
Anyway, I can't force you to buy the M8, just buy what you feel is right.
Oops, I forgot to mention on more cool feature of the M8, that is dot view case.
Have a nice day.
what does HTC expect if they can't update flagship devices like HOX & HOX+ with 4.4 sense 6 etc people will b happy buying devices of HTC I regret buying HOX+ should have gone with Sony or Samsung .HTC better think whether want more customers or wanna go in loss by ignoring old customers.Good luck with it HTC.Who won't think of buying HTC again eva in their life
