I decided to keep my M8 (over buying new 5X for BF price of $299). M8 is still great phone after 1.5 years, still like it a lot.
No FM radio and no SD card slot killed the deal for me on a new 5X. HW just not good enough to switch.

I've realized that Megapixels never make any difference. So think of it this way, the M8's camera has lower megapixel count for an average photographer than they think, but an expert provides you some great shots with simplistic hardware, so as the M8's camera it may not impress many people, but to the trained eye it can wrap up a scene better than some other SLR cameras out there, believe me it can take great shots, as long as you can do it yourself.

I've been using the M8 since May 2014 and it felt, and still feeling, like a champ. I prefer HTC's sense skin on top of android's platform. However, the key advantage for the 5X is that it's a nexus, it receives immediate updates for its software. so think of it this way, if you want a smartphone that look and performs well, and has top class software experience go for the HTC. Otherwise, if you like to get the latest and greatest from Google's software asap, then get the 5X

According to Pocket Lint who are showing MarshMallow proposed updates say end 2015 for HTC M8. Lollipop was an awful version of Android still buggy,,the most stable version is KitKat.
