Is it worth to upgrade from HTC one S ( the very 1st gen of HTC one series ) to M9? i hvnt use m7 or m8. So sense 4+ vs 7, whole new design, 8MP vs 20MP, VGA front facing vs Ultra pixel, 4.3" vs 5", 1GB Vs 3GB ram, dual core 1.5GHz vs Octa core, etc. Does it worth? Any opinions?
Wow, HTC has really been a big disappointment lately.
When HTC released the One M7, they held nothing back.
I mean sure the camera was hit-and-miss (at the it was still passable), but with the M7 HTC immediately became the market leaders in areas like:
* Display quality
* Sound quality (external speakers + headphones)
* Build quality
* Design / style (which shamed even the iPhone)
* OS (Sense 5 was a MASSIVE upgrade)
Then they just added to that with great innovation, such as:
* Blinkfeed (which proved to be surprisingly useful), * Zoe (weird name, but really good feature)
* Slow motion video
* IR Remote Control functionality
* Optical Image Stabilisation
* Ultrapixel concept (poor resolution, but the speed and low light performance was excellent)
I was looking for a new phone at the time and couldn't decide what to get because every phone seemed to be good at one thing, bad at everything else. The M7 was great across the board - I bought it without even thinking.
In all the time that has since passed, HTC's products have all been a complete disappointment.
With the M8, HTC:
* Moved to a 5" screen, when the world was moving to 5.1" and 5.2" screens
* Kept the same low res 4-5 MP camera (when everybody else was up to the 12-20 MP)
* Kept the UI virtually unchanged, still limiting you to 5 home screens (when everybody else allowed 7)
* Updated the design to one that looked and felt bigger, heavier, chunkier and just plain uglier
With the exception of the standard hardware (CPU, GPU, RAM) upgrade, the only thing the new model really gained was a completely useless second 'depth of field' camera which nobody really cared about.
Every other company made major changes to their new devices, so HTC fell from the top of the back to the bottom in a hearbeat. Instead of making the upgrade, I went with an Xperia Z2, and never looked back.
Now with the M9, and HTC has done pretty much exactly the same thing. They have addressed the biggest criticism (camera) by upgrading to a higher MP unit which apparently is still extremely mediocre...the physical design is practically exactly the same and still a step back from the M7). The screen is pretty much the same. It's basically an M8 with a new camera, token hardware upgrades, and a tiny facelift.
It's a shame because I was biggest HTC fan (had nothing but HTC phones up until the M7 went obsolete) but with the major changes being made recently by LG (G4) and Samsung (Galaxy S6 Edge) and with an All-new Xperia Z5 supposedly due later this year (the Z4 from what I've read is basically just to hold people off until the Z5), HTC has really dropped the ball.
For me to consider the next HTC One (M10 I guess?) they are going to have to come back with at the very least:
* A significant screen upgrade (at least 5.2" and preferably Quad HD)
* Camera that is (in real world use) at least competitive with the Xperia Z2
* A new physical design that looks sleeker and less chunky
If they don't do all of the above, I think they are going to really struggle to maintain decent sales.
dks, 04 May 2015Guys I have been using my M8 for almost a year now fabulous phone I have used ever thinking to... moreDont upgrade based on the camera alone. Camera is not that great. Even with 20 MP, photos are Okish.It dDoes not justify moving from M8 to M9. M9 makes minor improvements in a few areas, but doesn’t deliver anything really new, nor dramatically better. The design is nearly identical, with a couple of nice refinements. The display is the same. The speakers are pretty much the same. There’s a new processor, but overall performance is about the same, and battery life is actually a little bit worse than M8.
I've updated my mobile to android v5.0, but now, I couldn't able to multi task... Plz guide me, how to multi task? Previously, I'll just double tap my home button to check my running or recent apps...but now I couldn't able to do tat...Plz guide me...tq
Htc should launch this device in india.
They made a wrong move by launching the m9+ with the lower quality chipset to power a hungry 2k display.
I will ditch the s6 just for the extra storage I get in the m9 (samsung hasnt launched the higher storage variants yet....) and the amazing boomsound speakers.
Guys I have been using my M8 for almost a year now fabulous phone I have used ever thinking to change it to M9 I know apart from the camera specs are pretty much the same i need to know the camera performance and quality please give me honest opinions please
