i got some faint faint signal with gps but its not useable
for the 3G thing it depends on your network provider.... if its US then there can be issues because US is new with 3G network.
In most cases it should auto select it but if it doesnt then choose WCDMA under settings-->phone--> band select--->network type
Mine sometimes shows "H" indicator instead of "3G". Is there a way to keep the phone from using 3G when not asked ?
About GPS, the members in XDA Developers forum said most likely there's the chip inside (packaged with the processor architecture with the ATi graphic also) but is disabled. There's also attempt to enable it with software hack.
To save battery more, better not use homescreen with HTC Home plugin.
its a good phone. I like it... if you are looking for a small phone with a keyboard this one is for you.... if you dont mind taking larger phone the touch pro will be better choice. There is only regular 3g while the newer phones these days are starting to have 3.5G
There is also no GPS even though some people say there is.
MSN does not have voice option for windows mobile but skype does... There is no video call for skype or msn. However there is videocall over 3G network.
Douglas, 12 Aug 2008No video calls! But VoIP works great with Skype depending on ur connection. Yes it does :)
Bose, 08 Aug 2008Hi, Does this phone supports in making skype or msn video calls? Thank you.No video calls! But VoIP works great with Skype depending on ur connection.
Internet Explorer - when using my IE, I am limited to approx 75 characters in the address bar (phone starts beeping and does not allow any more characters)? This limits my access to certain URL's. Is this a HTC thing or a Pocket IE issue?
I do own the Device for some a month now, and am overall satisfied with it.
I am experiencing the memory leak problem though, as my memory status is usually 6MB, i use Oxiosmemory to solve that most of time.
Also an issue that occurs is in system status it saiz I have overall 43MB physical memory in stead of 64MB, and 130 instead of 256 in on device storage. I guess this is either the OS or a bug.
The unit also can not run 3D Java Apps, which is ridiculous with it's CPU, so I guess it's HTC being lazy with driver support.
Other than the above mentioned flaws the device does everything I tell it to (what's written on the tin is what you get) and does it well.
SMS/MMS, office, surfing, videos - divX works fine, blutooth and wi-fi works like a charm, the keyboard is nifty and sound quality during conversations is satisfactory.
Has any one read about the possibility that this unit may carry an AMD Imageon processor? It has the same Qualcomm MSM 7200 CPU as the Kaiser, so shouldn't it have the Imageon as well?
Also can anyone confirm or deny the production of a ROM update by HTC, or unofficial ROM updates by individual programmers addressing memory leak issues and the lack of hardware 3D acceleration?
Hi all, i thought of getting a N81 but its out of stock. Is this S730 similar to it? can i install games on this phone? thanks
This phone is perfect for you.
It's a small smartphone and pretty handy.
I have it myself.
You should definitely go for this one :)
Hi all, I'm aiming this question to all who actually own or have had hands on experience with HTC S730. I currently own a Sony Ericsson W950i, so watching movies and listening to music and radio aren't my problem. I live in a country which so far has no operating 3G - "very inconvenient". I need a device with integrated wi-fi and a "good"/decent office suite.
I'm often on the move, and when I'm, at work I sometimes have extreme urgent needs to check my mail, write a note or edit some documents, i work with text, presentations and spreadsheets. I know a phone or PDA can never replace a lap top but as I stated i need a device to help in urgent situations. I need a device I can use in a wireless hot spot, at the airport or office and check, edit documents, brows internet content (nice and neat like, not dumb mobile net content but decent enough to read text). I don't really see a need for multitasking, however Win Live messenger and Skype are favorable.
Pls. help, is the S730 a device for me or should I go looking somewhere else?

However, you can still use an external bluetooth GPS receiver for using it.
Hi all i am in singapore..Can i just double check if this phone has got built in gps or do i have to download it??Cos i wanna buy the phone this week...pls reply..
Thanks & cheeRs!
@M@cL, if the guy has purchased the phone and hates it, then I would say that's exactly what this board is for is it not? For people to read opinions of phones and put their opinion. And if someone pays $500 for a phone and it's not performing, well then so be it....
I am using S730 since Nov. '07. It is fine but has two major shortcomings - memory management and short battery life. I am really disappointed about the lack of HTC reaction (splendid isolation) as regards the memory issue. No fix and they even don't answer mails on this subject. I hope they will come with memory fix. If they come with S731 with better memory I would rather buy Nokia E51.
