My original 1.56 rom update came from the htc site and it had no svcd or mvcd in the name. So I always went with the same kind of name format with the dutty roms. i never even tried the other ones so I don’t know the differences. And the only backing up I know about is what you do with windows mobile device center into outlook and that does not back up sms, So I lose them every time. If you find a program that can back it up then put it back after a hard reset, let me know

If you use HSPL you won't need to go through official updates and stuff. But then you have to install stock SPL incase of service and warranty, but its upto you HSPL will be easier to install cooked Roms without the official Rom flash needed.. You choose, it doesn't matter..
