Huawei HarmonyOS

Huawei introduced three new wearables today. The event in Barcelona also saw the start of the global rollout of two tablets to the international audience - the MatePad Pro 12.2 and MatePad 12 X, which have already been selling in China for a couple of months.

The MatePad Pro 12.2 has a dual-layer OLED display and a massive 10,100 mAh battery with 100W wired charging, while the 12 X is sold in China as MatePad Air and, interestingly, has the same battery as its Pro sibling.

The MatePad Pro supports a keyboard and a stylus. Unlike its bigger 13.2" sibling, launched in late 2023, it does not need a notch for the selfie camera and facial recognition software - it's 12.2" screen with a 2,800 x 1,840 px resolution is uninterrupted.

The MatePad 12 X, as well as the Pro, have a PaperMatte layer on top of the screen. It simulates the texture of paper, aiming to improve performance for "young creators," and is also easy on the eyes.

Huawei MatePad Pro comes in two versions: Black with 256 GB storage for €849/£700 or Gold with 512 GB storage and the PaperMatte screen for €999/£800. Huawei UK will bundle the tablet with a cover keyboard. You can already purchase the device from the Huawei store, and everyone who places an order until October 22 will also receive a 3rd-gen Huawei M Pencil for free and a £100 coupon.

The MatePad 12 X comes in a similar bundle - keyboard for all in the UK and M-Pencil for orders until October 22. The price here is €569/£550 for a Black or White tablet with 256 GB storage and €649 for the 512GB version with the PaperMatte screen.

Funny thing is, they are coordinating with Google for the stopgap measures for Global users as they migrate slowly towards Harmony OS.
