Nekomimi, 12 Mar 2022Hello, can any of this phone owner give me honest review? Im planning to switch from my mate 2... moreI've just changed from a Mate 20 Pro and I don't recommend the phone.
The camera is better on the p40, it does 4K @60fps, the 32x speed slowmo is available at 1080p not limited to 720p or lower.
The battery is smaller and doesn't fast charge as fast. But my 3 year old Mate 20 pro was getting a bit worn battery wise so the newer phone feels like it lasts a bit longer.
But the main issue and reason I don't recommend it is the lack of Google Mobile Services.
Without access to all the apps on the play store, including ones I've paid for, it isn't as useful.
I can't use my banking app, authenticator plus app, intervalometer app for taking time-lapse of the stars in the light painting star trail mode. So many things are not available to me anymore.
The Gspace app might be all you need, but it runs the apps in a virtual machine and doesn't support a Google Apps paid domain account like I use. Probably fine for a basic Gmail account.
I've tried a few attempts at getting Google Play, Gmail and the like installed "natively" but at the moment the phone isn't supported by TWRP and doesn't look easy.
So in conclusion. A great camera and phone but without Google Services I wouldn't recommend it.
Advantages Disadvantages
*Great camera *Battery
*Design *A few games
*Compact size *90% apps will work but if you
would need 1 includeed
in this 10% it doesn't
*mono speaker
My note 7,5/10
I've been using this phone for a year and I chose it as a conscious customer. The most important things for me are good camera and fluency. Huawei p40 has both of that things. I don't use many apps but it was no problem for me to download my bank's app and use NFC, my favourites shops apps, post apps, newspappers, energy and phone operators' apps. I downloaded gspace so I can use YT, gmail, whatsapp, everything I need. The only thing i wish there could be more good quality games. Huawei's phones are not good phones for gamers. Battery is rather medium I have to charge during the day. All in all if you are standard user who call, use internet, want good photos and use standard, basical apps its a good phone. Moreover I dropped phone into the canal and it was under the water for 30 minutes. I had to only change microphone and clean device from mud and its still works great.

So is this the phone with the thickest notification bar ever? It literally looks like you could fit 3 lines of notifications, but of course it's only 1 line and thanks to the double punch hole on the left and the wifi and provider name being on the left as well, it severely limitss the amount of notifications
Genius move...

I had this phone for about a month before I returned it. While I loved the phone, the processor, and the camera, the battery was awful. I suspect the battery was damaged during shipping from the summer heat. When I opened the package, the battery was completely discharged and the phone was very hot. I was driving one day with the phone using GPS and the battery discharged within 2-3 hours and that's when I decided to return it.
CaptainGman, 09 Sep 2021Good day. I've had the p8, p10, p20 & p30. The P40 is by far the worst phone of them... moreYouTube vanced, petal maps, petal search/ apk pure and log in with Facebook. You are just lazy and you don't want to spend 1 more minute, and that's fine, you lose the camera and emui.

The P40 is by far the worst phone of them... moreThe last time I checked Huawei does not use Google apps.
And there's Huawei store or something like that for apps

The P40 is by far the worst phone of them all. Can't download the many apps. Regret buying this phone and changing to another phone less than 1 year.
CaptainGman, 09 Sep 2021Good day. I've had the p8, p10, p20 & p30.
The P40 is by far the worst phone of them... moreYou could do some own research and find out about something called "Petal Search". I'm sure that It will not take you a very long time and solve a lot of your problems that you have with this phone.
Generally speaking, if someone can simply just not handle not taking the most easiest route to something, then maybe that person shouldn't buy one of the new Huawei phones.
