Huawei HarmonyOS Announcement

Huawei held an event today in China, where its latest foldable was revealed. Meet the Huawei Pocket S - a cheaper foldable that inherits the footprint of the P50 Pocket but comes with downgraded cameras and chipset.

Huawei Pocket S is a more affordable clamshell with Snapdragon 778G chipset

The inner screen is a 6.9” OLED with a resolution of 2790 x 1188 pixels. It supports 120Hz refresh rate and 1440Hz PWM, as well as 300Hz touch sampling rate. The chipset is a Snapdragon 778G, limited to LTE connectivity.

The selfie camera is nested inside a punch hole and has the same 10.7 MP sensor as the P50 Pocket. The circular display on the cover, right beneath the cameras, is a 1.04” OLED with 340 x 340 resolution.

The cover hosts a 40 MP shooter with an RYYB sensor and f/1.8 lens, assisted by a 13 MP ultrawide-angle camera. The 32MP sensor from the P50 Pocket is replaced with a sensor for laser AF.

The user interface is Harmony OS 3.0, which is unsurprising, given the phone will be initially sold in China. It comes with plenty of pre-installed apps for the local audience, and offers customizations for the cover screen’s AOD capabilities.

The Huawei Pocket S has an ultra-thin bendable graphite sheet for improving cooling capabilities. There is a 4,000 mAh battery with 40W fast charging. The company promised the wing mechanism of the hinge has been opened and closed 400,000 times in testing to ensure its durability.

Huawei offers the Pocket S in five colors, all of them plain, unlike the P50 Pocket with its fancy gradients and patterns. Users can purchase the foldable in Mint Green, Gold Yellow, Rose Pink, Ice Crystal Blue, and Black.

yup. in antutu 9. the CPU of 778 beat 860 ( 162847 vs 143762) but the GPU lose so much ( 204477 vs 155153) . the total antutu for both of them 570246 vs 530727. so its close. well 778 have a lower TDP though, so it much battery friendly.
