how to upgrade from android 2.2(Froyo)to 2.3 (Gingerbread)

after upgrading to froyo, fm radio is lost.
camera quality is poor. sometym the touch behaves weird. overall the processor is slow. however, as a ltd budget Ph, it's okay.
I m just wondering whether it can be upgraded to gingerbread without rooting?

i am unable to update my huawei u8500(gp crystal)to 2.3. after installing n rebooting when animated window come like cyanogen or lewa rom or etc.. , then phone doesnt start just keep on showing. have tried about all roms, pls help ..
