Huawei Watch GT smiles in leaked render ahead of unveiling alongside Mate 20

Huawei Smart wearables

Huawei is prepping a new wearable, which it is said to launch alongside the Mate 20 family at the event taking place on October 16. The new device is called Huawei Watch GT, and there will be two versions - GT Sport and GT Classic. The latter is depicted in the leaked render you can see below.

The Huawei Watch GT will focus on battery life and affordability. It is built around a 1.39-inch round OLED display with yet-unknown resolution, according to the source. The Watch GT Classic uses a black bezel on a silver design, and will ship with a brown band as you can see. On the other hand, the GT Sport will be all black.

GPS and NFC are built in as you'd expect, alongside Bluetooth, a compass, a pressure sensor, and an accelerometer. A heart rate monitor is likely to be in but its presence hasn't been confirmed by the source of this leak.

The smartwatch will be swim proof. It's going to have 4GB of internal storage and a 420mAh battery, which should somehow allow for up to 14 days of use - we assume that's in a low-power mode that renders the smartwatch essentially dumb, but we're happy to be proven wrong. In normal operation you can expect half of that if you're lucky, but even that would be groundbreaking for the smartwatch space. In GPS mode it could last for 20 hours apparently.

Given all of that, there's a very high likelihood that the Huawei Watch GT is powered by Qualcomm's newly unveiled Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, which advertised a lot of battery life related features.

The smartwatch is expected to cost €199 in the Sport version, and €229 for the Classic model.

The event that it might be announced is on October 16th, so I doubt you'll be able to have it in your hands by October 20th...

So if you own a Huawei Watch (v1.0)... ....then this thing is a side-grade? Come on, where are the improvements? I know the first Apple Watch and Gear S1 were even worse than the Huawei Watch v1.0 but those companies kept making improvements...

Is it me or are the prices for smart watches beyond retarded. I mean come on at the 250 euro price point you can get some sleak time peace that will keep its value for decades. Or you can get a smartwatch that looses 60% of its value in a year full o...
