Huawei Android Announcement

The Huawei Y8p quietly took its place on the company’s website. If it looks familiar, it’s because we’ve seen this hardware before, under the Huawei Enjoy 10s name. We guess it’s a matter of regional availability whether you will see this as a Y-series phone or an Enjoy.

The front is dominated by a 6.3” OLED panel with 1080p+ resolution (90.17% screen-to-body ratio is the official reading). There’s an in-display fingerprint reader too, not too common in this segment.

Around the back we find a 48MP main camera with a SuperSpectrum sensor – Huawei’s marketing name for RYYB sensors. The camera also offers Super Night Mode (up to 6 second exposures with AI image processing).

Beside the main cam are the 8MP ultrawide-angle camera (with a 120° lens) as well as a 2MP depth sensor. There’s also a 16MP selfie camera living in a notch on the screen.

The Y8p is powered by the Kirin 710F chipset with 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage. There’s a version with 6GB of RAM, but if you want more room for files, you’ll have to use an NM card (up to 256GB). The phone runs EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10. In lieu of the Google Play Store, you will get the Huawei AppGallery and related services.

The battery is nothing exciting – the 4,000mAh capacity is okay, but the 10W charging speed is a bit of a disappointment. At least there’s a standard USB-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Huawei Y8p comes in Midnight Black and Breathing Crystal. It can be found in Belarus for BYN 650 (€245) up front, monthly deals are also available. The first units will be available on May 29 and it looks like you can score a 99% discount on a Huawei Band 4 Pro if you order by the 28th. We also found it in Myanmar, but there’s no price yet.

Huawei app store, old kirin 710 processor, proprietary memory card...thanks, but a big No. Huawei is dead outside China. I will get Samsung A31 or one of the new Oppo...

Lol, I knew it's a Kirin 710 phone before reading the news. So many Huawei phones with 710 this year...
