IDC: PC market contracts by 29% in Q1 due to weak demand

The PC market sent out another disappointing quarter, worldwide shipments contracting 29% compared to last year as per the latest IDC report. Based on preliminary data, the total number of PCs sold in January-March totaled 56.9 million units which is 23.3 million units fewer than the total for Q1 2022. All of the top-five PC vendors experience double-digit declines with Apple faring the worst with a 40.5% difference between Q1 2022 and Q1 2023.

Lenovo remained the global leader in total shipments at 12.7 million units and a market share of 22.4%. HP came in second with 12 million shipments and a 15.8% market share while Dell rounded out the third spot with 9.5 million shipments amounting to 13.7% of the market. Apple came in fourth place with 4.1 million shipments and a 7.2% share of the market while Asus was fifth with 3.9 million shipments and a 6.8% market share.

The latest PC slump was caused by the ongoing weak consumer demand, excess inventory, and the unstable economic market. The upcoming months are not looking good for PC vendors with IDC experts predicting a return to growth by the end of this year.

what is IDC report? can any one define me with full form of IDC

Hp sometimes not releasing drivers earlier than other brand. But hp brand is good like Dell and Lenovo.

Hp laptops are ok. but they need to support driver updates properly atleast 3 years (like Dell or Lenovo).
