Lava Android Announcement

The Lava O2 was announced today in India. The company claimed it is the fastest phone in its $100 segment thanks to its chipset, which is Unisoc T616 with an octa-core CPU. The O2 also has a 50 MP camera, showing that entry-level phones have come a long way lately.

It gets a flat 6.5” LCD with HD+ resolution and up to 90 Hz refresh rate. The selfie camera is sitting inside a punch hole and has an 8 MP sensor.

There are two cameras at the back, but only the 50 MP main one is actually useful. The secondary is called “AI camera,” and we can bet it contributes little to the actual photos and videos produces by the O2.

Lava calls O2 the “fastest phone in the segment” because the Unisoc chip, combined with the 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, can reach over 280,000 on AnTuTu, a lot more than a competing 4G smartphone with an Helio G85, for example. RAM is also expandable up to 16 GB.

The Lava O2 has a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 18W charging through USB-C. The phone also comes with Android 13, but at least it is clean; the company says there are no ads, no bloatware, and no unwanted apps.

Lava O2 comes in three colors: Imperial Green, Majestic Purple, and Royal Gold. The price is INR8,499 ($100), but at launch, it will be INR7,999 ($95). Sales will begin on March 27 at noon IST, and the phone will be available on the company's online store and Amazon India.

The exact same phone is also available as Lava Yuva 3 Pro but with a slightly more expensive price tag, so we suggest customers to go for the O2 option.

Hope the company to consider selling their phones to the Philippines and other South East Asian market.
