Update - on Sept 10, 2018 my LG G5 H831 got the official Android Oreo 8.0 update. I had to use LG Bridge software to install the update. It is big, 2.2GB update . Working beautifully so far on my LG G5. Great battery life, smooth apps.

I took a play around with my sister phone LG G5, looks really good! Mostly about the camera, compared with my uncle iPhone 8 non-Plus, looks LG G5 performed better than the iP8, no joke. LG G5 is a clear winner on daylight due to better dynamic range, iP8 looks overblown in high-contrast but both rendered pretty equal detail. On indoor lowlight iP8 just very slightly better detail than LG G5 but very noisy and too much oversaturated. LG G5 has very natural colours lower noise but detail is can't quite match with iP8. By the way, overall LG G5 is still has pretty good camera plus the wide angle lens is one of the kind. Not a bias opinion but I don't think iP8 is not worthy to get 92 scores on DxOMark. If iP8 is worthy with that scores, LG G5 should be the same or little bit higher.
Clearing app cache and then rebooting might have solved my battery drain and Wi-Fi/streaming overheat. Who knows? This phone can get hot in the most random times. Problems can happen again the next day.
I thought I would love LG forever. I can't believe their unreliability is forcing me to choose an iPhone.
I'm officially done with LG. After a day going back to normal, the battery drain came back. I can't figure it out. Only been 11 months since I got it. I could do the fresh restore, but such a hassle to redo all the settings for each app. I would also need to redownload some games because LG Backup can't restore them correctly without Google Play.
To add insult, image retention returned. My V20 next to it which matches everything on the G5 doesn't show any since installing sFilter and that was worse. Battery life is also fairly normal. I'm banning LG for good. I'll stick to their TVs, air conditioners, and Blu-ray player instead.
Can't believe my iPhone SE is now my 2nd favorite smartphone ever and I can't stand iOS. But the hardware itself is very reliable. Streaming video is efficient with battery life. No image retention. No random overheating like my LGs do. If I needed a battery replacement, easy to go to the Apple Store. Not scour for cheap third-party Chinese batteries.
Essential Phone is still my favorite even though I'm still going through my honeymoon phase with it and extremely difficult to repair.
Oreo update is good but color of icons cause more screen retention. Thermals are good and set didn't heat too much on power usage. Long press on icon provide quick access to app features. Camera and video player has been changed.
Tested my G5 again to check if it was some fluke and it's not. Problem solved. Update MX Player Pro and battery drain (1% every 2 minutes) is gone for good.
I actually went back to my original battery. It's more worn out but was manufactured later (Nov 2016). The one I started using two nights ago that came with the free charging cradle was made in March 2016. I looped the same 10-min YouTube again and the more worn out one actually gave me better results. I didn't lose 1% from it. Update apps when you see severe battery drain.
75-25 or 85-25 rule is also beneficial to follow. Since my G5 is now mostly at home, I do the 75-45 rule. I want these batteries to last as long as they could because after two years, you are stuck with Chinese batteries for replacements. The OEM replacements would be as old as the one you have.
I figured out my battery drain. I needed to update my MX Player Pro app. So far, it no longer drains 1% every two minutes or less when streaming YouTube. My other three phones will lose 1% every 5 minutes or so. Back to being a great phone for me!
I would still put the Essential Phone on top only because obviously it's newer, better build quality, smaller, faster, Pie, and the image retention did return on my G5. Not completely off the hook. I am going to do the 75/25 rule with my battery discharges/charges.
That battery drain bothered me all day. Safe mode proved there was a rogue app. MX Player Pro all along just needed to be updated.
Essential Phone
LG G5
LG V20
Apple iPhone SE
I really started to consider getting OnePlus 6T from T-Mobile if I couldn't fix this G5 battery drain with a fresh restore. Next up, good battery charging habits.
It's use to be good, but I have enough of waiting for a update to Oreo. Have a camera that doesn't focus and battery is going down fast. For sure, my next phone is not a LG.
I'm going to Sony. As of late, I've been loving my Sony PS4 slim more and more since getting Shenmue HD Collection. Only bad Sony product I ever used was the first Sony PS1 1001 model that I had to turn upside down to read discs. The 9001 model, PS2 5001, PSP 1001, PS Vita slim, and PS4 slim have all worked beautifully.
LG is a mess. No wonder the G5 flopped. This is my second G5 and only got it less than a year ago. Already giving me problems. I still prefer it over my V20 because the UI is smoother and it's smaller. But it looks to me I may never use the G5 again as my daily driver. It's strange how good it is with tethering (screen off) but SOT is gawd awful. If I typed this message for 5 minutes, I'd lose 3% already.
Removable batteries is also kinda overrated. After two years, you will end up with Chinese third-party brands that are mostly crap. My Xiaomi Mi 3 with the original SEALED battery has better battery life than my G5 with SOT and that's over 4-years-old! Surprisingly hasn't swelled up yet. While LG removable batteries become crap after only a year!
This G5 is falling off for me among my favorites. It used to be #1. Has fallen to #3 and could go down further.
I updated my apps and for the last few days, I'm getting severe battery drain. If I stream YouTube, I lose 1% every two min. I started using the spare battery I never used and the problem still occurs. Then I did safe mode and streaming was back to the normal 1% every 4-5 minutes. I could have a rogue app. I hate having to restore it all again but I just might. I also thought sFilter stopped the ghosting and it returned twice the last 24 hours.
Went back using a plain black wallpaper. Becoming worse and worse. My V20 has held up better with battery and I updated the apps the same day. No ghosting returned either although it has a near plain black wallpaper already. It does LAG more while G5 drains faster. I obviously will still keep both around as I use them to control my Samsung TV every day.
It seems my iPhone SE is moving up from #4 to #2. And I can't stand iOS but hardware-wise, the iPhone is just more reliable than LG. Battery life is still excellent and it's older. Going to swap it for a new one before the year ends. Problem is I could never use iPhone as a daily driver. Such a reliable device but the software lacks things I need like a great call block app and torrent apps. LG just doesn't seem reliable for either hardware and software. Would never get a Samsung though.
Going Sony or OnePlus next.
I just receive an update (1.7GB including Android upgrade maybe oreo...) model G5 F700L (Korean variant).
This is a very UNPOPULAR opinions but the LG G5 and Essential Phone (which both flopped and panned by critics) are two if my favorite smartphones ever.
LG G5 has the best all-around hardware for me. Even moreso than my V20 which is technically a little better. I just prefer the size more and it rarely gets hot like the V20 does often. While Essential Phone with Android Pie is the best software experience I ever had. Its as if Matias Duarte put webOS on Android.
1. LG G5
2. Essential Phone
3. Apple iPhone SE
4. LG V20
5. Xiaomi Mi 3
All four are all great and it's almost difficult for me to separate them. But gut feeling tells me I enjoy G5 and Essential PH-1 the most. I've owned the first iPhone Nexus, Pixel, and only Essential ever. I've owned the HTC One M7, Galaxy Note 3, S7 edge, and several more. I like the underrated, underdog phones.
LG G5 and Essential PH-1 are like the Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo GameCube of smartphones.
hey i'm using the lg g5 fr about 50 day and what can i say is that the design suck and the battrey suck and the main camera isn't that good but the wide angle is good but guys the prefomance is so good i can run all the playstore games perfectly and it won't slow at all
i got the phone without origina accesory for about 150 dollar and i'm satisfied

Went back using a gray wallpaper and never saw it after a month. You can google search the right settings for the app. I found it in one of the comments from the V20 page on this site. I had problems for both my units and never saw it again for either. I even use NightShift app for scheduling since blue light is unhealthy in the dark. Never seen image retention ever again.
Irfan, 25 Aug 2018Very Good Phone... Except for Screen Retention.. It's Worst on This.Screen retention/persistance or any kind of burn-in alike is pretty sounds normal problems on LG G5. For those who have this problems, I suggest to turn off your G5 and leave it for a few days, so you won't available with your phone for a couple days. It's not 100% effective but it's worth to give it a shot. If it does, it may not eliminate the problems permanently, but it may for a long run.

Anonymous, 23 Aug 2018Of the LG G5 or Nokia 7 plus which is better? Focus: Camera Screen quality Audio The main camera on G5 is very good and should be better than N7+. Plus, I'm pretty sure you'll appreciate wider-angle camera rather than telephoto lens. G5 has QHD compared to FHD on N7+ so better, sharper goes to G5. I've never used N7+ but I used my little sister G5 just bought few days ago for music playback, no complaints at all. Just good and practically no distortion but decent on volume clarity (when using any headphones or external amplifier). Loudspeaker is good, sounds bassy and pretty loud.
