Switch off "mobile internet" in your wireless settings.
Phone your phone company's customer services, check your tariff is one that contains internet usage, if not, get changed onto one that is.
As to your balance...how would we know, you haven't mentioned who your operator is, but look in your contacts, it should be in there.
for instance, o2's is *#10# then dial.
And read the manual...
PLs help just bought LG GT540 and in an hour it wiped £10 off my credit. I was looking as everything on the phone and was just pressing the return/back key to come out of Apps - do I need to close down in a different way??? Also where on the phone can I locate my balance, thanks.
got my GT540 on Carphone Warehouse a few hours ago.. network is T-mobile.. Unlocked.. comes with 2gb microsd.. will buy 16gb next week.. awesome phone..
should i get this or should i get the i5700 from samsung? the only thing holding me back from this phone is the fact that the samsung has a capacitive screen, which i read was waaay better than resistive screens.
I recently heard bwt the rock player app, it sounds soo cool, anyone know if it works on the lg?

Orange is locked to Orange, o2 to o2, etc, but not all are unlocked, from personal experience, and some of their aftercare, and customer support is crap.
Camille, 28 Aug 2010how do you download apps ? @ Camille,
You download apps from the market on the phone, or via the net, from the devs site, if one exists, etc..

i,ve had this handset since it came out and let me say its an awesome phone, wouldnt have minded paying more.
only a 3.2 megapixel cam, but who cares really when you can do everythin you can do on a desire more or less at a quarter of the price.
you cant compare the phone really to anythin out the price range because then your payin more, the samsung wave is good but rubbish apps (personally)
only had 1 problem myself and thats with certain apps, not the phone, to say i cant store to SD i have loads of apps and things.

The GT505 is rubbish, poor GUI, poor apps, camera isnt great, flash is useless, and screen is terrible, not responsive at all, IMO.
And it's not Android, and was dumped as soon as it was released.

Not all Carphone Warehouse phones are unlocked..so beware!
Also, if you buy an Orange phone, be prepared for a ****up of epic proportions, their software is rubbish(they actually break this phone in parts), and wifi won't work correctly, as their software seems to insist you use 3g for everything.
So if you buy an Orange phone, flash it to a different operators software, and keep it on Orange with the sim, or get it flashed to another operators software/get it sim unlocked, or the easy way, Don't buy an Orange phone, and go with someone else.

Maybe, because of the sim car... more@ Freefaller,
You are right, the whole Xmp = better quality thing is bullcrap.
fine for printing huge posters, but not for the average tv/monitor/printing of photos.
look in the market for SlideIT keyboard app, it lets you select a primary language/secondary language, and also download other language dictionarys from online.
It's a better keyboard than the stock one, and the sliding for entries is far better.
@ RottenFoxBreath: thanks for your replies and valuable tips!
Maybe, because of the sim card switch the unit locks. I think I'll have to reset it.
I've tried that once, - duh, nothing happened - anyone tried that successfully?
Q: is it possible to use English menus with non English Language (add a second - non English - keyboard layout for input texting)
Because a lot of people are commenting about the GT540 'only' having a 3Mp camera I thought I would add this.
Lets say that it had a 12Mp camera, which some phones now have. The image size would be 4360 x 2912 pixels. (12,719,616 pixels). The most common size monitor has a resolution of 1280 x 1024, so the image would be the size of 4 monitors! Who needs that?
LG phones have always had good cameras, my last phone was a Viewty, and the pictures were superb.
I took a picture on my GT540 at 3Mp res and sent it to a friend. It took nearly 20 minutes to send. Multiply that by 4!
The only problem I have with the GT540 is that the sound is low. I have problems hearing it ring, especially when it is in my pocket, but then I also have a Nokia 5800 which wakes the whole street when it rings!
This a great phone for the price, works a treat on our Vodafone 3g network. I have confirmed with LG here in Australia, that 2.1 will be available in mid Sept. 2010 I have put in a 16gb data card, and it work very well. Just drag & drop your file, no iTunes crap to deal with!
