I've had the phone for a week now - a couple of questions:
i) Is it possible to sort contacts by surname?
ii) Is there an update for the Android version (mine's currently 1.6) and if not, how will I know when an update is available?
iii) How do I make my contacts' birthdays appear on the calendar?
Also, my phone gets a little hot sometimes in my pocket - is this normal?

Yeah, it can ring quite loudly, speaker phone can be quite loud too, still clear though, avi playback is fine, audio isnt too loud, but loud enough to be heard in an average room quite well..
headphones would be better for watching movies or videos i guess, as i said the speaker is quite clear, but flat..so even maybe a different media player than the stock one..
as for youtube, as you know, some videos audio is terrible, some good, some loud, and some quiet..so that's all youtube dependant...
and reception on o2 is crystal clear..
other owners might be able to say what it's like on other networks, but should be just as good as any other phone.
RottenFoxBreath, 03 Aug 2010@ johti, Yes, theres a Youtube app, on the phone.thanks for that, wanted a phone that plays you tube well. also is it a loud ringing phone and how is reception, planning to get one unlocked for orange network...
johti, 03 Aug 2010does this play you tube well???@ johti,
Yes, theres a Youtube app, on the phone.
this phone has all the specs I need at the best price ive seen!
only one problem... it seems more like a ladies phone... :(
the design somehow reminds me of paris hilton?
ste, 03 Aug 2010Hi just bought a optimus 2day i love the phone in all ways but 1 n that's wot I'm after help w... more@ ste,
I've posted this several times, so a quick look over the past few pages would show it, but here it is one more time....
To change your Notifications to something other than the stock ones:
In the root of your SD card, create a folder called Media, and inside that folder, create another folder called Notifications(you can also add folders called Wallpaper, UI, Ringtones, for their own stuff).
Place your desired tones in the newly made Notifications folder, and in your main settings screen, you can select the Notifications sounds you want, for everything other than texts.
- this screen lets you select notifications for everything bar texts/MMS.
If you want to use a different text tone, than the normal ones, enter your messaging programme window(green icon on main home screen, and press menu, then settings, scroll down to ringtone, and it will show all the ones you have added.
This lets you use a ringtone for calls, in the main phone settings, a notification for everything(bar texts), and in the text menu, a seperate ringtone for texts/MMS, etc.

Just to let you guys in the UK know, im using the LG optimus with a Giffgaff sim, they are an offshoot of o2 here in the UK & they offer proper unlimited web (no tethering, just mobile use) until october and they also have minutes/texts bundles too AND no unlocking too! Thanks to Yoda aka RottenFoxBreath for the previous help & info

TBH, I haven't experienced that yet, and I've had Copilot running(you can back out of it and re-enter and it will continue), alongside Twitter app/Facebook app, GPS on, quickly(in my mind) downloading/installing an app or two, getting texts, and receiving calls..
Suppose that's not running it hard, but TBH, never had any kind of lag, or warnings yet.

1. Either get a case/gel skin, which have started to appear now, or live with it is the only solution, lanyards are so 10 years ago, and not 100% reliable either..lol.
2. No, they can't, most you get is a "turn on wi-fi", or "this app needs wi-fi on - set to on?".
Not so much of a hardship to press the Menu touch sensitive button, and hit the wi-fi button, as a quick step.
3. If the satellite icon is still on the top bar, then yes, it's still running.
4. the old way was clunky, and in reality, the instant message way seems a lot quicker, no browsing through folders, you just scroll through a conversation.

If you have the o2 version, theres no software updates as of yet, just to save you the trouble..
I'm sure it tells you prior to this though, that theres no software update(you can cancel the install, if it recognises the phone, as the driver is already installed, otherwise it wouldnt see the phone.)
Server might be down, etc...
I know it works, as i installed the drivers before, but each time i check, "No updates" is what i get.

1 i know its not an ipod, but so many other mobiles have that... there is a hook below the battery which could be used, only the back cover fits to tightly... i dont like using cases
2 yes, but is there a way an app can turn the wifi on automatically, because now i have to turn on the wifi manually and search for a hotspot
3 thats not what i asked, i asked does the gps work when the map app is minimized, with the back button
4 i kinda prefer the old way, but ill get used to the new design
Everytime I check online for any software updates,(using LG software), I get a new box appearing stating 'installing USB driver'. This box hangs there for a few minutes, and then a new box - 'Unable to connect to Server' - appears.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Kean, 02 Aug 2010Can you run apps from the SD card? I believe the internal memory is quite limited in size. @ Kean,
No you can't run apps from the SD card, you need android 2.2 to do that, and the next update, which is on its way is Android 2.1 for this phone..
Still, with the apps as little as half a meg, you can install lots..
I've got about 12-14 installed on mine, and still have nearly 80meg left, and TBH, dont use half of them.
Quite possible LG may add this as a feature, or customise the OS to do something in either the next or a future update, or indeed someone to add it to a custom rom.

2. You choose which way it's connected, some apps may point you to enable 1 or the other, but you can disable or enable either mobile network or wi-fi.
3. GPS can take some time, to get a position, and google navigation only works in some countries.
4. text messaging now is like an instant message conversation, so when you click on a conversation, all sent/received messages to that person are shown, but you also have the draft feature, etc.
There are other messaging apps, like Handcent, etc, that may be slightly different to the norm, and there may be some apps that act like the old outdated style of texting, with folders, but it's neater the way it is now.
