Yes, if wifi is either OFF, or not in range, it will use mobile internet and ur operator will charge you.
But if you go into Settings > Wireless controls and UNTICK the "Mobile Network" box, it will disconnect from mobile internet.
That's what i set my phone to almost all of the time, and it DOESN'T impair your phone calls or text messaging.
-Also, if you use an app called Y5 - Battery Saver, it will turn on Wifi ONLY for wifi networks you 'remembered' and when whey're in range.
One more question. On an online store, they state that this phone requires a permanent conection to the internet. So, when not in range of wifi, it always reverts to 3G or GPRS? Or can I configure it so that it only uses wifi (if available) and never reverts to 3G or GPRS or UMTS or any other internet access which requires access to through the operator?
I have bought it in sept 2010
Its amazing all its features are impressive except speker sound have some what compromised. I dont like its sound so i always use head phones for listening music. Its best phone in its range.
I advice to buy it.

Mine's the red icon. Its stock.
You can remove your orange apps by first rooting your phone and then downloading titanium backup to remove the stock apps. Google search a app called Universal Androot. This will root your phone easily without the use of terminal.
I bought my gt540 last week and battery last only for a day Is this okay because on the phone specs it says that stand-by time of the phone is 500 are you experiencing the same problem?

Diluen, 21 Sep 2010But TasKiller already came with my phone and I can't uninstall it.You got Taskiller on your phone, when you bought it?
Is it Taskiller(Red Icon), or Advanced Task killer(Green Icon)??
The one with the red icon is rubbish.
You should be able to update at the same time, as you can use a normal update on the Orange phone, but if you wanted to wait for Orange to gimp and cripple their software as usual, then just wait it out, until the Orange network mess it up, and release it...lol
I have an Orange branded handset :( do you think I'll be able to upgrade to 2.1 as same time as unbranded handsets this week using LG Support tool??

yeah that's fair enough, well done for looking into that mate! Advanced Task Killer does the job most of the time though. Is a great app...everyone should have it!

I have actually tried everything you suggested, still no luck. I have never received error message about failed start or force close though, but I did reset the phone anyway, also I closed SNS with task killer, nothing helped.
Never mind, the standalone application is enough for me, it is just bothering me why it doesn't work.. :)

And some when closed with this programme, will start up again, or appear to stop, when they are still in fact running.
Other apps that use the back button to close, from experience, are Copilot, Astro, Camera 360 pro, Vignette, Tapatalk, Google Mail, Google Talk, the Market itself, Google Maps, Wifi File Explorer, Advanced Task Killer(go figure), SNS Service, Picsay Pro, and games...
It's more down to the Android platform, more than the app itself.
Please check facts before posting inaccuracy's.

No, back button does not just minimise apps...it closes them..check your running tasks when doing this, and you will see it ends apps, which for example, on Astro File Browser, it clearly states " press back once more to exit ".
