This afternoon I took the risk to buy a 6gb card (ScanDisk microSDHC 6GB, class 4, with USB MicroMate adapter)=>70 euros.
My Viewty accepted it without problems: no crash, no complain. When I looked at the external memory properties, they read like this:
Used: 888064 Kb
Available: 1767712 Kb
Thanks to what I read on this forum, I did not panic. I switched to LG PC Suite in order to start filling the memory. BIG surprise:
- first, this buggy software would report an error on each file copied (so it is impossible to copy a group of files)
- second, on each file copied, I saw available memory decreasing (another post on this forum says nothing changes before we use 4Gb): the available memory counter decreases regularly both in PC Suite and in the Viewty.
- third, copying files with PC Suite is very slow: 1h42min to copy a 517 Mb file
That's where the MicroMate helps. It is a little boring and tricky to have to remove the battery and extract the microSD card and put it in the adapter. Windows XP recognized the new volume in a snap.
So I blasted some directory contents on the new removable drive that appeared in Explorer (to tell the truth, I had to reboot before doing this).
Copying a 587 Mb file with Windows took 5min. So I rapidly copied more than 2 Gb on the card. In Windows, properties read like this:
Used: 2.49 Gb
Available: 3.18 Gb
I unplugged the card and put it back in the Viewty. Now the properties of external memory read like this:
Used: 888064 Kb
Available: 3343040 Kb
I tested some image, sound, and video files burried deep inside a maze of directories: it worked. Displaying images located in external memory shows a latency; mp3 and divx do not seem to suffer.
So, now you know how to feed the Viewty with more than 2 Gb.
(In fact, since the Viewty hardware is able to read the SDHC format, the device should be able to read 32Gb cards)
Hi guy i like to LG Viewty got security fungtion separately like you can chose which item you wanna have security. Exp gallary or mesages.
the same hang times is happening with 2 or 4 gb card. it's about how much files you have on the card, not the percentage use of it(eg. 3 movies of 600 mb, no hang time at all, 50 movies of 10 mb 2 to 10 seconds processing). though, the best decision for everyone is to try(borrow) 2 or 4 gb from a friend and then decide by yourself.
hey. can i know what kind of message tone it uses? my current LG phone only has fixed tones to use. i want a phone that can use mp3 tones. thanks (:
I have not received my phone, but just have a little input about the 2 gb...
It is prob a good idea to go by the recommended 2gb rather than anything higher.
I currently work for TomTom which also gives the same suggestion (2gb with minimum read speed of 10 mb/s) when using SDs on PDAs,mobiles, and TomTom devices which take SD cards. Using cards with higher capacities often cause the devices to drag and not function as wished by the user. You would not believe how many people call us and complain that it is not working and it turns out they are using a 4 gig card or even camera SDs that operate slower than 10 mb/s.
Where to download applications for this phone??
I mean something like black list manager etc.
you know, the stylus positioning is starting to really bug me...my screen got scratched by the edge of my stylus already...although i have a screen protector, it still hurts...anybody have the same thing happen to theirs?
the manual says it supports up to a 2gb microsd card, anybody put in one thats larger? any problems?
QUESTION: (for Philippine base only) i wanna ask if your MMS is working on your KU 990 ?
o2 are gr8 they sorted me a gud deal & treat me like a srar 10/10 but viewty is mint & i would recommed to every1
can anyone tell me does the sony ericsson k800 have touch screen? in my understanding it does not.if anyone can clarify that for me that would be good. thank you
i found the touchscreen impossible. Typing in my number was a challenge in itself
I'm a proud owner of a Viewty, and frankly, it's the best phone i have ever used.
Typing on the touchscreen was my main concern, It's a breeze, and i am a frequent texter.
I don't like the fact that it shows every picture and video you have on the phone in the camera viewer, because my backgrounds and other pictures that should rather not be seen end up there, hehe.
Further, the flash is a bit underpowered. It's not as bright as the one on the SE K800/K810, for example.
Here's a sample macro picture i took with it:
Wolf out ^.^
Rating: 6 out of 10 (Good)
Pros: Good camera
Cons: battery life, touscreen no as responsive as claimed, microsd not easily accessible, ringtone not very loud
Just got mine yesterday, have been a user of SE phones for some time. Last one was k800. Comparing the responsiveness of both touch screens, SE's was more sensitive n responsive.
SE's batt life was better. Ring volume was similar for both phones(both not too loud). Screen was clear, but the supplied screen protector was of low quality(you could get bubbles after stickingif not careful). There was no dedicated buttons for playback of music. The worst i would say is the software support. The PC suit doesn't do much and there isn't many themes for me to change(only 3). the DIvx converter is actually expired, after installation, i was prompted to buy from the website coz, its is expired. First time i'm trying LG after reading the review from CNET, If you've been u SE phone like me before, stick to SE coz LG phones got a big gap to bridge.
Love it! jus does anyone know if you can lock the difrent things on the phone such as msgs and stuff so tht no1 can go in to ur msgs ivout ytpin a code in or in media file an stuff so like everytime u wanna go into a subject u have 2 type in the code to access them does any1 know if u can and how to? thankyou. BTW the fone is awesom!!!
Ok, so 3rd day with this phone. I used it to record video all day. At 120 it worked great, it was not dark but i was in a lit office. I used it lastnight in a bar and the picture's came out ok..They are not as colorfull as other 5mp camera phone's BUT if u go your ur picture's then hit the "option button" for the picture u will see a "smart light" option, makes a big difference. Also u can set ur red, green, blue light setting's which other phones don't have. Also I got the music player to be louder by tricking the phone I raised the bass, trebil, mids..is was the only way. Also I noticed that the menu could be made a bit more user friendly when it comes to making new folders, and adding $h!t to the memory card...Well When I move stuff to a folder i needed to make a new folder on the memory card FIRST then send this $h!t into...it dont tell u so in the manul. Its a great phone if u want different, its more of a camera then a phone to me. And I feel like I have to baby it because it feels very delecet. My sonyericsson K800i, I threw it around and seemed like a "man" phone. Also I have a good friend he has the N95 8gb it has more stuff on it but the Lg is much better looking. All the women at the office wanna see mine over his ;) so its a plus
