adn.engineers, 28 Oct 2012Although having an Android device without an OEM forced-upon UI is a plus along with the lates... morePeople need to understand the aim here.
Ideally, the common consumer would learn to value the advantages of a true and open phone, with fast updates directly from Google. In my ideal world, we would all punish OEMs who don't provide updates and hinder the great Android experience (considering the advances in ICS and especially Jelly Bean).
However, Android is open source. OEMs can do anything and market it heavily. Therefore, consumers without knowledge just buy into this twisted Android experience that OEMs provide (lack of updates, slow downs, reboots etc.). That's true even to top tier phones like the high end Galaxy line. HTC, Motorola...
Thus, since consumers can only listen to price, Google is aggressively pushing in the Market top AOSP devices with an incredible low price. The Nexus 4 and 7 are proof of that.
The goal is that consumers will look into the 299/349 price for a great phone (quad krait, adreno 320 etc. etc.), and suddenly realize that they don't need to pay $600 for a Galaxy S III or much more for an iPhone 5.
And then, hopefully, they are _forced_ to "see" what it means to have an AOSP phone: constant updates (some of them feel like a new phone altogether for free), buttery smooth interface (now that jelly bean is perfecting that), stability (no reboots on my gnex, no reboots on my nexus s 9020t etc.).
Google is now using the Nexus line to commoditize the hardware. And just like in the PC model, in the end we all win, just like in the PC industry: we all like to hate Microsoft, but the WinTel model allowed everyone to have a NASA supercomputer of then at home.
They are going exactly for the right strategy. Kudos to them. MS, unfortunately, seems to be walking backwards to the closed computing model of the 70s and early 80s.
Although having an Android device without an OEM forced-upon UI is a plus along with the latest OS version when is Google going to finally "spec out" a true cutting-edge topline smartphone? It's plain ridiculous that the software company that develops Android to continue to market a sub-par device.
We at and.engineers are always striving to find the positives with any launched device but Number 4 lacks any polish and sparkle in our opinion. The. Nexus should be the device upon which other OEMs strive to attain rather than wondering if Google might ever decide to use their own manufacturing division to lead the industry. Quite frankly the so-called "worry" oft mentioned as to reason for not using Motorola to produce top-end Nexus devices ihas become quite droll. We're sure Samsung, HTC and others aren't going to abandon revenue streams merely because the OS developer produces smartphones.
We don't fault LG here as Google sets the specifications for Nexus but we were hoping they'd get the opportunity to create a v4.2 device worthy of being labeled "one of the best". All we can hope is that the pre-launch specs are a rouse but we aren't holding our breath..
Come on BIG-G do something for a change...LEAD LEAD LEAD.....
My wife has an iphone 4 and is due for an upgrade soon, this and the SGS3 will be at the top of the list... she is not a power user so the 8GB storage wont be a problem.
AnonD-71868, 15 Oct 2012Why in the name of all that's holy do you think LG and Google don't know how to do their job? ... morePerfect Answer... hahahahahaha i enjoyed your comment.. he is rite.. u guys better stick to nokia 1100
an, 26 Oct 2012when they say "the screen is 4.7'' diagonally long", do they count in the space take... moreThey disappear when watching videos so no.
There's no 4G LTE either. It'll be very hard for them to compete with other high-end phones if they don't have a version that has LTE and more storage.
when they say "the screen is 4.7'' diagonally long", do they count in the space taken by the onscreen buttons?
is yes, claiming 4.7'' diag screen is a cheat.
This device is a joke... Only 8gb without Mmc! using Adreno 320! Games like fifa 12 and others will fill up it 8gb easily....
whay? they hit himself

almost the same as Samsung Galaxy Nexus I9250

LG produces reliable and quality products, specially LCD colors n camera , which produces real brilliant results. i like LG. here opetating system, battrey , cpu, gpu, HD screen are scoring but memory limit is questionble ,
I dont think google is serious about Nexus line of smart phones. They are not intended for mass market at all it seems.
8gb of memory?? hm...
Anonymous, 25 Oct 2012I think Google released an 8 gigabyte version to make the phone cheap, and adopt more low budg... moreI agree with you, they must release a 32 GB version as well, because 8 GB is nothing these days.
And dear Gsmarena, something is NOT okay, I can't log in with Facebook(and my Facebook account is OK!).
